What limited matings? I’ve known Benji and his littermates from a young age. He was at public stud to anything, and bred to a good few more gyps than what’s posted on fed’s, including his best litter which isn’t up.
A few good dogs out of a very large number of offspring, dosen’t make a dog a top producer does it? Consistency is what counts and Benji’s offspring were very inconsistent from what saw of em. A handful of good dogs can’t make up for the large number of not so good produced.

@ Oldguy, What dogs did Benji produce to become a POR? I’ve probably got it wrong but thought a dogs offspring had to earn 15-16 wins before a dog could be called POR. 2 ch’s, 2 2xers and 2 1xers I know of, the rest I don’t. As for Curstoppers offspring saw a bunch and the best 1 I see was a plug at best. Maggie has gone on produce decent to different dogs but that’s not performance and I never see her.

@ all blacks, You do know Benji sired a few brindle pups when bred to gyps without any Reid ancestry? It’s Maggie that I’d agree is responsible for Harry’s quality, as she consistently produced good dogs, a few which seem to have gone on to produce and be behind some good dogs today. You still can’t claim them em as Reid dogs as they’re diluted into various lines.

 

The dogs I saw that was out of Benji is all I can really speak on mate and I got to be honest with you and say I don't really understand the POR thing.. I had it explained numerous times and never took it in, obviously a POR produced a bunch of good dogs, but that's it for me mate, sorry! I saw Tartan's Ben 2xw and liked the dog a lot, lost game against Winning Way's CH.Kane, saw CH. Lola and a very nice bitch, owned Lola's brother (benji jnr) very game dog who should have (and would have) been shown if I hadn't gone holidays, Lionheart's CH. Benji and Kizzy 2xw was siblings (Benji x Binks) there might have been another winning female in that litter mate, but honestly can't remember now! If I think of any more I'll let you know, maybe others could offer some input, but that's what I know about them Benji dogs and honestly I liked them!

Far as I know Maggie was a game female, no talent but a renowned producer, so yes when she got bred to Benji, obviously she produced Harry, but when she got bred to RSP's Tex, she produced Yew and CH. Violet and that was just start of the good dogs that came from that blood.. But for sure mate Maggie produced real good dogs.

 

I never said harry was a reid dog did I just a throw back and anything coming off harry were always called harry dogs, Maggie had a bad back leg and couldn't be put in top condition and that's why she wasn't matched ch lou was the same but she had some mouth so they took her on out, harry was bred two times now that's what you call a producer
