This is great for bedding for dogs and pups, it won't stick 'em like hay will or draw flies like hay will.

Cedar contains natural insecticide that will aggravate fleas and flies

Cedar chips are usually used in rabbit cages and is sold at walmart for about $5 for enough for two dog but you may catch them throwing it away if you live near and check at a local lumber yard

Also, if you can make a dog house out of cedar planks or old wooden cedar fence slats that would be awesome too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better than treated wood and if your dog chews on the house it won't harm like pressure- treated lumber will

Be careful with Cedar chips if the dogs or pups happen to eat them it will kill them

Thats why I never used them... I was afraid the pups would eat them... (they eat everything else!! ha ha) They smell great though... make easy stuffing for a cheap home made bed.......

So whats better.... hay or straw?? I use straw... It keeps them warmer, and it dosnt rot... but it does turn them yellow......

Pups can easily try to chew the straw and it can end up lodged in their throats. It works great for older dogs however.

Damn........didn't know that......i've used cedar chips for last two years with pups and have loved how they kept down odor/left a sheen on the dog/prevented fleas & flies.....guess I've been damn lucky!

i dont think you have been lucky....its not common for dogs to die from eating cedar or straw or anything else....hell it would be worth taking the chance of a pup dying just because all of the good points of it....hay is full of bugs and it rots and is all around nasty....they dont even sell straw here.....and i would imagine it is full of bugs too....cedar shavings #1 help keep bugs down #2 make your dog smell real nice #3 wont rot and make a mess when it gets weight #4 isnt very much and is real common and easy to get....kinda like the barf diet....the benefits drastically out weigh the chances of anything bad happening( like a dog dying from eating a bone)
