Cali chain laws

My dog stays in a crate in the house when i am not home. Between me and my girlfriend, my dog is never in her crate more then 6 hrs a day.
But come this summer i will be taking a internship/job pretty far away so my girlfriend is on her own taking care of the dog and she will be gone 8+ hrs.
The only practical solution is a some kind of chain setup. And considering chaining is illegal i was hoping to use a cable setup. Has anyone in Cali been using these cable setups? Is ac bothering you? Is this legal?
I just dont want to get my dog snatched by ac because they( or me) are uninformed about the laws.
    Any info is greatly appreciated.
P.S. The yard is small so the cable is to "skirt" the law not because a cable is well suited for my yard.

animal control doesnt go around looking in everyones yard to see if they have dogs chained out and I've yet to hear of anyone here having any problems with it.

If nosey neighbors send them out, which I doubt would ever happen it would be a warning anyway, theyre not going to take your dog

    do what you gotta do

  3. i would put a simple lock on whatever you do decide to use... it makes me nervous thinking about making it soo easy for someone to steal my dogs... i have a padlock on my gate

  4. im my yard i have 8 cement kennels and 5 chain setups and the cops have come by plenty of times and havent said a word about it so i think you will be fine...

I would be more worried about thieves than ac. For a breed with such a vicious reputation, there sure are a lot of them stolen right off the end of their chains. I don't think the kind of a$$hole that would steal a dog is looking to give it a good home either. I NEVER leave my dogs outside if I am not home. Way to much can go wrong. I don't see why you can't continue crating during the day. 8 hrs is a long time but not too bad. If your yard has a good fence just let her run free when someones home. She will get all the exercise she needs, be OK in bad weather and best of all, still there when you come home.

the city cops have way more to wory about that lil bullshit like chain setups.... but its like this case where homeboys from norcal in maybe a more suburban area than lakewood...... and the cops have a lot less to do...... thats when things start gettin fishy....

as long as your backyard isnt openly visible to the public you should be ok

You should go to or call your local town/city hall or AC person or dog pound to find out about local ordinances and laws in your town/city. The laws and ordinances vary by town and city. So what might alright in one town or city may not be legal in yours.

If you are worried about your dog being stolen were you live it may be better for the dog to be in a crate inside. If the dog is outside and someone REALLY wants to steal your dog there is nothing you can do to stop them no matter what precautions you take. I think it is better to leave the dog inside and out of sight of thieves.

Good Luck how ever you decide to handle it.

i DONT LIVE THERE, But if I was concerned about my dog getting stole, I'd bare the electric wires on an extention cord, and run it through two in. pieces of pvc attached to the fence, and plug it in. Whoever touches that, will never come in your yard again!!
