    Watsup everyone!

I am seriously considering getting myself a legit ADBA APBT with legit game dog ancestors.

I was warned by some people that with a dog like that there is high chance it will be aggresive towards other dogs to a point where it will never like other dogs no matter how much you socialize them.

Is this a myth or a real thing?

Not sure if your serious. You have to base everything on a dog by dog basis.

It really just depends on the individual. Few will tolerate other animals after a certian age. I've been able to get 2 females to Co exist together in the last 20 years. Have had many in that time period who showed me why it's not worth it to try it anymore. Some will tolerate other dogs, most will not and no amount of training is going to overide hundreds of years of genetics. I would say if you don't have any real experience with these dogs then just keep it away from other animals. They don't need nor do they want doggie friends.

You are asking if a game bred APBT will be dominant towards other dogs?

Remember the 2nd word in this breeds name...

Honestly, If you have to ask the question, you are not experienced enough to own what you are inquiring about.

The answer in a nutshell is YES!. There is a "high Chance" of this.
I have had one or two accidents through out the years that have convinced me it is not worth chancing it. But like others have said, some people have made it work. I personally have had luck with a smaller non threatening dog that they where raised with. But as AGK has said, "they don't need doggie friends"

Short answer, the real thing. Please don't get a dog and try to socialize it. I have a feeling it won't end well. As Joe Boots stated, I don't believe you need this breed either.

Guys relax, I just want to know if theyre a complete psycho or sometimes aggressive, I am oh with it being aggressive every once in a while, just dont want a freak on a leash you know what I mean.

Had a pitbull for 11 years allready, wasnt a game dog, but I have plenty experience with whatever, choked out a German shpeherd once to save my dog.

I know some of you will probably say, well you should ask the breeder about that, but you know how that works, they want to sell you a puppy, they wont tell you the nasty stuff at least I dont expect them to.

Going by what you have said in your posts, I would say its probably a really good idea to steer clear of this type of dog.

See this stuff a lot. They were hoping people were going to say something they agree with. Some people are stubborn, they don't want their opinions to change :poke:

yep, there's a HIGH chance your dog will be DA. that's the 'nature of the beast', so be prepared. and no once ain't a fluke! it's a pattern. again, be prepared. can't undo years of genetics by wishful thinking. get a break stick and learn how to use it. and I would not recommend you getting other 'pets'. sounds like you're going to need to use all your focus on your new pup. good luck.

  20. I've spoken with a bunch of old school dogmen over the years & the pretty much same the same thing.
The dogs have been systematically bred for generations to enhance their "gameness" but this trait does not guarantee that they will be worthy of further training & most say 5% or less of the dogs they have bred were considered worth putting the effort into training & conditioning them for the pit. This does not mean that your family "Pibble" may not one day tear your neighbours dog up out of the blue. Leaving them with their mum & litter mates for 12 to 16 weeks minimum, early socialisation & training & continued training in obedience is certainly a huge factor. APBT generally have a very stable temperament if not abused BUT they are genetically predisposed to be game & most have a powerful prey drive & need supervision & an owner that understands their dogs behaviour, & is willing to put in the effort to train, socialise & exercise them correctly.
The APBT needs a special type of owner. Staffordshire Bull Terriers share many of the same attributes, but in my opinion are much easier to manage & provide a better option for those whom an APBT would prove too much of a challenge.
    Cheers
