Bullshit martial arts vs. MMA

Most martial arts are "real" in the right situations. "1,000 techniques have 1,000 counters." Traditional martial arts, TMA, get a bad rap because of demos imo. "Guy A punches. He leaves his punching arm extended and usually AWAY from a real target. Guy B does the fanciest, movie inspired technique he can... Guy A NEVER moves his hand or struggles/fights back." Then the above video happens with a non compliant party... PRACTICE HOW YOU PLAY! You train half assed, you WILL get smashed. Period. Class attendance pays bills. Training hard and honest could save your life... at least help you salvage your pride. Everybody can't be a winner lol

 

When I figure out how to post videos I have some pretty good clips for you. Real aikido imo

 

Yea, I wasn't trying to say that all martial arts are fake or ineffective, including Aikido. But those demos are silly. It would be interesting to see a pure Aikido or other MA master put into the cage with a top MMA practitioner to see how those methods work against someone who can avoid their basic moves and then ground and pound.

I agree. I believe you know what effective looks like. A competition like that would be hard because a lot of martial artists are led to believe their style is "deadly" and should only be used for "self defense". Most don't even have a real sense of self defense imo. If TMA trained full contact, then separate mysticism from theory and technique, I think they would be waaaaay better off! I didn't watch the above clip, but I hope the "kiai master" was in it. He "kiai'd" the guy and got punched SEVERAL times. He couldn't believe it!! I think it was for money too, or a challenge

 

This training is pretty realistic. Boxing gloves and REAL strikes would have been icing on the cake. He wasn't trying to "hit" him, but was throwing punches "at" him. Check his other videos

 

He is redirecting the punches of the guy who is trying to hit him very well. But as you suggest, it would be nice to see a demo in which two people with these skills put on gloves and tried to strike. If this skill was 100% effective against high level opponents, the top MMA would all be doing it, as it takes the wind out of the sails of the guy trying to punch you.

 

Oh, and yes in that first video the master seems to hypnotize people into submission, then an actual striker gets in with him and knocks him around.
