My dog (lion) is 12 months old it has bulls which i think work fine and i wasnt convinced into castrating him since i dont want to cut anyones bulls of to make it ''behave'' better (he is not that bad) plus i see my doggy like a little child (he acts like one and plays with too many children) and i wont cut my childs bulls of (human) so he can behave good sing to me with his high pitch voice and wont have children when his 15-16.
i dont plan in breeding my dog (he doesnt hump females he kinda humps other male dogs) oh he has no aggression towards male dogs.
he has a very strong prey drive where he chasses foxes (imagen a fox chase in the city) he never gives up untill he either kills the fox or the fox goes some where lino cant go but by then he goes past main roads and so on and i wont be trustuing him off leash for about 2 weeks.
so can you guys tell me your thoughts and m,aybe try to convince me :D

Yes I know this was not your question, but it must be addressed....He should not be off leash. He should not be allowed to hump other dogs. Even if he hasn't been in a fight yet, it will happen. Better to prevent it from ever happening in the first place. Ok that being said....what is your reason for not having his neutered? Unless he is a registered dog that you plan on showing, weightpulling or breeding then there is no reason he should not get fixed. There are many threads on this site that address this issue. Probably more reading than you want, lol.

If there wasn't a show career to consider for Priest, I'd be in favor of neutering him, like, yesterday. Honestly, if a dog's not breeding quality, then why worry about it? They certainly have no emotional attachment to their gonads. And ditto on what Pitpalace said. Don't let him hump other boys. That's just asking for trouble.

you dont even seem to know the situation my dog is a presa canario mix with pitbull (there is more presa in him) and he acts more like a presa where he plays with every single dog he can see (when he was 8 weeks old he was shown to other dogs). The dogs where i live are little staffs which my dog doesnt attack little dogs (dogs which cant challenge him) and yes he was attacked by 3 yorkshire terriers and a jack russel and what did he do? he was off leash and he stood next to me silently so i trust my dog of leash in some locations and certian times (times where foxes are about is not allowed). who said i allow him to hump other dogs? i stop him when he starts.
If you read my post properly i told you the reason why i didnt castrate him which is my personnel view and i wanted to learn more and maybe castrate him but seeing your post it seems why should i listen to you when you just want to attack me?.
i actually read allot about castrating but couldnt find it in this forum so i made a thread which i wanted opinions not attacks.
The only time when my dog growls at other dogs is when he is on leash (he does it to red nose pits).

Who attacked you? I didn't see an attack. I saw information you didn't want to hear, but it was couched in a respectful, decent post.

I wont be breeding him (i had offers) do you think i should get him castrated straight away? i heard that larger breeds need to wait 18 months (presa) im kinda confused.

If you are able to keep him away from any females until he's 18 months, then yes, it might be preferable to wait. :)

no i found it kinda rude that he went off topic and told me how i should handle my dog without even seeing him react to other dogs and i dont mind when people say castrate him thats the reason i opened this thread.

the females in the UK are mostly castrated and he doesnt like little 10 pound females to hump but even if he tries to hump i intervene and trust me i dont want to breed him i could of with offers with bullmastiffs and so on.
i would wait to 6 months more and show you lot a pic of him with no balls :D

I am sorry if you felt like you were attacked, the intention was to educate. No dog should be off leash, I don't care what the breed (there are always exceptions to this). You are the one who mentioned chasing fox thru the streets. Dogs do get hit by cars.

im sorry i talked like that aswell.
yeh my dog got hit by a car when it was 7 months old and the car was going 30mhp luckily nothing happened. now he is bigger and can jump higher i put him off leash in a specialy garden (it has fences and the dogs which join my dog all know him they aint strangers to him) when he was chassing the fox i was suprized he jumped the fence (he was not that big) and this places fence was taller then him. But over here there is allot of dogs of leash even walkign in the pavements (yes even pitbull mixes which are mixed with labs and so on) but the pits in the UK (some) are allot different in the way they act maybe its because they are mixed so much :S...

I said "yes, because..." it will be better for you and him. This way he won't have to go crazy when a female within the 3 mile radius is in heat. Also, I've heard it's better for their health when they are older. I would love to get all my males' fixed, but my boyfriend isn't really for it, so all my females are fixed, except one, but she will be fixed as soon as I can manage it...Back to the topic, I also heard it will keep him from running off, but that shouldn't be a problem, because he should always be on a lead. Also, like someone already said, just because he hasn't gotten into a fight, doesn't mean it won't happen.

    ok thanks.
lion is like that too my brother actually bought him i look after him more and my father looks after him and my dad being old and having a farm dog didnt want him to get castrated (his old dog wasnt) and my brother well i need to ask him. I would get him castrated when he turns 18 months.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the reason in waiting much longer? I can't say that it's bad, my male(not an APBt and was thnining of breeding him...decided against thank goodness) was 2.5 yrs when I neutered him... I'm just wondering what your perspective/reasons are on it. :)

I would do it asap. 1 reason is your dog is mixed (and we dont want more of that do we ?With all the dogs that look like a pit bull in the spot light) 2and For health he will not ever go throught any isues down in the bulls spot. J

well the reason why i thought of waiting untill he reaches 18 months because some sites say large breeds should be waited abit longer (i never bred my dog before and will not) and he is a very good gaurd dog (we sometimes take him to a farm and he gaurds the Farm (he doesnt do anything to sheep) and he gaurds it off leash so all night he runs around the farm (the farm also has gates).
would castrating him make his gaurding sh!t? in my fathers country (Turkey) they never castrate those types of dogs like kangal which do that kind of job and maybe my dad is against castrating because he wants a dog which is a male so without bulls he doesnt consider them male which i agree to a certian degree especially if we was in the times where dogs where not just our pets but helped us gather food protected us and so on and turks see wolfs as a symbol which they looked at the wolfs life style and migrated like them as nomads and fought like them and thats how from all the turkic empires turks where so big.
im trying to thin my dog down and get him leaner :P its very hard :D

ASAP? i read that you shouldnt castarte big breeds before they reach 18 months old where my dog right now weighs 70Ibs and the vet said he would be growing untill he reaches 2.5 years old so i dont want to do any mistakes i rather do it late then early.
dont worry im not gonna breed it and my dog is not a bad example he loves children other dogs and humans (especially women) only at night times he turns into a gaurding dog which if any human goes into his area he would first bark to alert us then he would run to the person and i dont know what he would do after because it didnt come to that stage.

Neuter him now. The studies that show it might be beneficial to wait until older are based on PEDIATRIC spay/ neuter (done at 2# or 8 weeks). The difference between a neuter at 8 weeks and 6 months in terms of future growth is much greater than the difference between a neuter at 6 months and 18 months. At that point it is minimal in comparison.

Also, as the owner of two Presa Canario and co- chair of the national US rescue group for the breed, I want to reiterate what the others have said- he should NOT be allowed to hump other dogs and all signs of aggression (growling) should be harshly discouraged. The Presa is equally as dog aggressive as the Pit, gets bigger and it much hardered headed as well. Just because he is fine now with other dogs does not mean that he will be next month, next week or even tomorrow.

I would schedule the neuter ASAP.

I have not gone though this whole thread, so please excuse me if I repeat anything. If Lion is a mixed breed, he should be altered. It will not harm him in any way & in fact will benefit him. It will also prevent another litter of mixed bred puppies.

As for him having Presa in him, that means nothing. If I recall correctly weren't Presas created &/or used for dog fighting too? If so, I most certainly would not be letting him run off lead & definitely wouldn't be letting him hump other dogs. Letting him do either one is just inviting an accident to happen & who will get the blame but the big, bad "pit bull." :(

    JMHO.
