I think we are singing from the same hymne sheet OTR. The staffs of old were noted for their power'ess, even it be a badger to a door mouse. Why was this ? anything shorter than an equal adversary means nothing in relation to gameness surely. Was the old fanciers easy pleased? maybe their inexperienced pedigree chasers were easier pleased than they were. Who knows. If these dogs were so good , why are they not as popular as their american cousins? lets not forget we have the fanatics shouting at the computer screens "they are here you just have to be in the loop or know where to look" hogwash lol

ps do you know why JT jumped ship ?

There has been a few Stafford´s throughout all periods that has proved their worth. As I see it the main problem is the lack of serious breeding programs and serious breeders, but despite of that there still has been a few descent Staff´s about. As I see it, the ones who should have kept it going were the ones that bailed out first. If the doers would have stuck to these dogs, perhaps the situation would have been somewhat different.

On The Rocks.... I don't really get what you mean bailed out ?...bailed out of what...owning SBTs ?.... the men who ware into sport in Ireland and UK used SBT only because there was no APBTs... when they did come to these isles in the mid 1970s they bailed out as you say because the APBT was better... why should any be loyal to the SBT ? they are just a breed that was lacking... the dogs from the USA ware the full package... why wast time money energy on a breed that is not equal to the APBT.... to me it like living in a country that has only kc show greyhounds...and the locals race them... then someone imports real track greyhounds, you'd want to be a fool to put your money on the show dog....

On the Rocks.........seems the good ship "SBT" has well and truely run aground. Backing a SBT in the fastlane would not leave enough money for washing up any rocks may be you could cook some meth instead. SBT are no longer deep game and would not be able to push a game enough APBT to quit. The damage that would be to great more often that not. It would be more of a hard game test than a match.......without any real chance of winning.......what would be the point especially with money riding on it and care of the dog afterwards.

I just stated facts; there have been a few Staffs in each era that has proved their worth. So the question “what would have been if the right people stayed with them and started serious breeding programs” is a fair and logical question.

It is perfectly understandable if people saw an advantage in the American dog, who can blame them. But I know at least a few people around in the era when the APBT started to come in, that later had the same questions as I posted above.

For the rest I think the debate APBT vs. Stafford has been covered more than once on this board, I personally have no interest in doing the same debate all over once more. I have said it so many times I can’t remember. The game bred Stafford is an enthusiast hobby. I wonder if you guys would tell the owner of a Shelby Cobra 1965 in mint condition that he´s car is useless because it cannot compete with the race cars of today. Honestly, most game bred APBT´s would not last long with the best of today either! So if the goal is to own the best dogs out there- well 99,9% of everyone owning gamedogs has already lost…

Well put OnTheRocks. The 1965 Shelby Cobra analogy is a great point.
