A friend of mine owns a 3yo female he bred her to a dog that has no problems as a produser. Well she had a litter of 13 an all pups died within 2days she only prodused a little milk an pups just would not feed.
1. Would you think the female had some sort of problem ?
2. Would you try to breed her again ?
3. If so what would you do first before you did ?

i think their is medicine to give a whelping bitch to help produce milk if needed & their are certain foods/diet you can give her to also help produce milk & btw why didnt he just bottle feed the pups with puppy formula from pet store or wal-mart ??? im mean wtf why let the pups starve ??? they should of hand fed them . i had to 1 litter of 6 it was a pain in the ass !!! but they survived

more water intake = more milk make, with the help of salty meat like pork (adds protein and salt) she will drink more water and produce more milk. I would re-breed her, but also give her a boost in vitamins feed her more and add to her food evaporated milk, eggs or some liver... ALSO after she has them she NEEDS Calcium (TUMS antacide tablets), phosphorus and vitamin-D.
and vitamin D must be fed to avoid the onset of eclampsia.

Yeah, everything Bobby said. Feed wet.very wet because sometimes a dog just won't drink much water. I also use 2 to 4 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in my bitch's ration with plenty of water. There is some mammary condition which the ACV prevents and also it improves the ph of the milk for the pups. I can't remember the condition but old-timers used to say that one with it had "bad milk".

ACV Apple Cider Vinegar. I only start the bitch on it after 30 days gestation. It has been said if used too early, it could cause a bitch. To abort. I've personally never seen it do that but just to be pre-cautious.

2 day without feeding will not kill all of them ,check out FPS Fading Puppy Syndrome an see if they fit the symptoms ..In a lot of cases FPS is caused by Herpes

Did you look up FPS ? Herpes is in dogs is not the same as humans . I have one lose 12 .in 4 days ..I put 1 in the freezer an when I went to Baton Rouge I drop the pup off at LSU 4 days later they call saying it was a herpes virus . She was bred 2 more times to the same stud an all the pups were fine from both litters

I would breed her again if I took her to the vet and everything checked out. That is weird, and I would want to find out what happened. I would definitely monitor her much more closely the next time around. If it was an isolated problem, then I would fix/prevent it the next time. Its just such a wide variety of things that could have happened and my mind wouldnt rest until I figured it out!

If it is a problem should could potentially pass to the next generation and cause breeding problems later on, I would not breed her again just to save myself the trouble.

Bad milk sounds like mastitis where the teats become infected, the area around the teats become lumpy and can looked bruised and feel hot to the touch. The milk ducts become blocked. The first couple of days the bitch produces colostrum before the milk comes through. Colostrum is low in fat, and high in carbohydrates, protein, and antibodies which keeps the pups healthy. You may want to put the bitch on a course of antibiotics. If your going to breed her again just before her heat i would clean her and the male out worming them etc, see how it goes from there. Over the years i have seen a few bitches that seemed susceptible to mastitis each time they were bred.
