There will always be a contrasting style that you could have problems with no matter what you practice...
thats not to say that if you learn jujitsu you will not be able to defend yourself adequately.

 

Rashad Evans was a wrestler before the whole UFC thing. I doubt he would try to advance in BJJ if it held no weight and was wack.

I think karate or aikido is a good foundation. JMO

 

Jiu Jitsu is great against people that don't practice Jiu Jitsu. I started Jiu Jitsu after wrestling for 5 years and its always been my wrestling ability that puts me into position to break a motherfucker's face. Jiu Jitsu lets me break someone's shit or put them to sleep if i fuck up from the top and get reversed.

 

Yes wrestling teaches one the foundation of angles , positions , body mechanics, leverage, etc. to dominate your opponent , while BJJ teaches you techniques in how to finish your opponent. The two arts compliment each other but its not really the art that makes one a great fighter it is the person.

"RASSLIN" as we call it around here is huge. Especially marlow, state champ on the team EVERY Year,... look it up.... look at the champs and contendors is every sanction realm of mma.... WRESTLERS!!! Or guys struggling to learn to remain competitive. Bjj isn't outdated. It Just has it's place. B.J.J. and wrestling have equal finishing moves. One isn't over the other. Wrestlers from OU and OSU have mma submissions that rank right there with any gym house from brazil.....

 

But in a no holds barred/street fight (no time limit) B.J.j. definatley holds sway just for the fact of conditioning don't last. And the longer a fight goes of course mistakes are made. So the nature of B.J.J. and oppurtunism becomes a big factor. But with rounds and time limit connecting a 3-6 is smarter and your not rubbing nuts for 15 min. On the ground lmao.
