+1 Holyfield, had the heart of a fuckin warrior!

  3. Re: BOXING yesterday & today

Does it have to be fighters from our generation? I mean fighters that we have only seen on tape or ESPN classic? Do they apply?

  4. Re: BOXING yesterday & today

Sorry Pick. Cannot endorse a fighter that other fighters were paid to take dives against.

I liked guys like Holyfield, Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, J.C. Chavez etc., they fought evrybody. Boxers today pick and choose too much, get in there and fight them all.

Come on Lakewood that was the "Anchor Punch" lol...
I have trouble putting Ali in there, but what he did to Foreman was brilliant.. Now he may be paying for it to this day, but Ali beat the unbeatable that night IMO. That alone deserves him to be mentioned...

Not saying you cannot have your favorites. It was documented. I don't think Ali could have beaten Foreman on his best day. Thought if Listen wasn't into Heroin, he would have killed Ali in the ring. Also, thought Ernie Shavers, Larry Holmes and a lot of heavyweights would have beat him as well.

Ali- game as they come, lightning speed. Showed heart against the hardest hitters. The rope-a-dope against Foreman is one of the greatest displays of smarts ever. Imagine if he wasn't robbed of his prime years.
Jack Johnson- ability out the ass. Hard hitting and hard to touch. An ace if there ever was one. I also love the way he bucked the system. Plus he was a bulldog fan.
Tyson- smoking Joe reincarnate. High pressure fighter. Like the previous two was robbed of his prime.
Smoking Joe- PRESSURE! He put the heat on opponents like no other heavyweight.
Roy Jones- who could have touched the guy in his prime? A true showman in his day. Too bad fame and money cut things short, but it happens to most fighters.
These are off the top of my head. Some consideration for Ceaser-Chaves(spelling) and others. Then there is the trinity of Leonard, Hagler and Hernes. Damn boxing use to be the shit. Now I can't think of any boxers besides Pac and Mayweather. Pac's last fight is prime example of why the sport has gone to shit.

I watched a discussion the other day about whether teo stevens could have beaten Ali, the experts opinions were that Ali could have and would have beaten teo. We will never know of course but IMO if Teo caught you with a shot you would most likely end up on your back....any opinions ?

  17. Re: BOXING yesterday & today

Imagine if he was allowed to come to this country and become a pro. That would have really been something. If I remember correctly, Holmes was champ at that time. I could see Stevens beating him.

You're right about that, I think he could have become the heavyweight champion with ease.
