I think the larger size can be attributed to a lot of peoples belief that bigger is better, so they breed biggest to biggest, not best to best...

I have a 73 lb male chinaman/cowboy, redboy male that is 2 yrs. I like small to medium pits and larger but the 90lbs and up are too big! Do you all feel that bigger pits are not conformation material for shows?

Me and my dad had a discussion about these so called giant pits and the conclusion we came to makes a lot of sense. And plus he has a friend that does this. I think it takes about 10 generations to produce. All they are doing is taking a Mastiff and a pitbull and breeding them. When the pups are born they are bred back in with another pit and they keep doing it and doing it and doing it until they produce what looks like a huge giant pitbull. I saw one the other day and I was like holy shit. It looked just like a pitbull but its feet and legs were so huge. Plus he walked and ran just like a mastif would, but he just looked like a giant pit. Very pretty dog, but damn he was huge. He was maybe about 120 or more. He was a big boy. Even his sisters were huge. If I can get a pic I'll post one so you can see what I'm talking about.

Sounds like the guy is attempting to produce Bandogs. Bandogs are often produced by using, pit/Neo. Mastiff. The original Bandog was used to protect estates from intruders, and poachers.

Hmm..I didn't know that. Damn I learn something everyday. Well in that case you know what I'm talking about. I mean these dogs are huge. You have to see them. Their feet look almost the size of a man's fist. I would really hate to get attacked by one of those dogs..lol and I feel sorry for whoever walks on his place too. He has a couple of them running loose on his 50 acres.

I know quite a few people that are into these 'Bandogs' using ab's, rotts, and mastiffs then breeding them back into apbts to get the drive that most apbt's have.

... but what about those pits that are not bandogs that are of larger size? Most people concider 65lbs and up a big dog.

  10. When apbt's are bred to weigh more than 45-75 lbs. they are not true apbt's. Though the dogs have evolved to have a little more muscle mass than the original old school pit's that were only weighed about 35-55 lbs; they are not supposed to be that big. Those dogs are probably american bulldogs.

that's what I'm trying to figure out, don't look anything like an APBT to me but they are both UKC registered and making a fortune for their owner. $2500-$4000 for a pup.

They look like freaks to me.....

LOL......just about about same thing I was gonna say. Although, it would be perfect for an English Bulldog owner wanting something a little more athletic.
