    Now if I could afford to feed all the dogs what I think is one of the best I would feed that Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul by Diamond. Its a bit out of my price range being close to $30 for 30lbs..

    Lady Rampage is right about the Chicken Soup, but Diamond is a very good food
    for the price...IMHO

    Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul is outstanding. For a few dogs not a problem but not very practical for a yard of dogs.

    Studs and bitches in whelp = Chicken Soup
    Yard = Diamond Professional
    Pups = Diamond Puppy

    Just what I like personally.

  6. CA JACK POSTED THIS ON HIS BOARD ABOUT CHICKEN SOUP.

    Chicken Soup is a decent feed, but it is not on the same level. It's own literature is ridiculous, and is aimed at "human buyers," and not nutritional facts as they pertain to dogs. It says, "Naturally Pure Fruits, Herbs, and Vegetables Provides many of Mother Nature's best vitamins and minerals and natural sources of antioxidants for healthy cell structure and improved immune system. Multiple, Whole Grains for Better Health. We all know the health benefits of a diet containing multiple grains-and dogs and cats benefit, too. Whole grains are an excellent source of soluble fiber and a great part of healthy diet."

    I mean, WTF kind of gibberish is this when talking about a CANINE diet? Dogs cannot even DIGEST whole grains! (LOL [IMG]) They do not, by nature, eat fruits and vegetables ... they eat MEAT - whole animal meats and fats.

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

    Dogs can and do eat fruits in the wild.. dogs are OMIVORUS (sp) Look at their teeth .. A dog will eat anything by nature they are SCAVENGERS They are not true "meat eating only" animals

    A cat is a true meat eating animal .. notice the difference in cats teeth vs canine teeth

    BTW.. it is corn and wheat that give dogs the most problems, which chicken soup is corn /wheat free. Rice (whether or not they can digest it or not) is given when a dog has stomac problems and needs a bland diet.. so it doesnt upset them,

    High amounts of protein are bad for dogs and if you feed nothing but meat, your dog wont get complete nutrition One reason is most meat given is not free range and lacks in lot of nutrients itself

    I notice that the majority seems to like Diamond, I was looking at a breakdown of puppy foods and their ingredients in a dog magazine. I think the first ingredient in Diamond puppy food was Corn meal, the only meat in it was Chicken By-product which was I think the third ingredient with the second ingredient being another filler (it could have been second though, have to check)

    I was always told to go with something that lists meat like chicken first (not meat "by-products" first)

    Looking at food labels the diamond appears to be a lower quality feed compared to the majority, pro plan, Iams, Eukanuba and alot of the other feeds seemed to be of much higher quality.

    Why is diamond so popular? Is it cheap? I thought it was about the same price as "Iams" etc (although I dont remember really and can see feeding a cheaper food if you have a big yard to feed). I can see it being better than stuff like old roy and those type feeds.

    I have never used it before because of the ingredients but maybe I am missing something. I was always told to stick with meat as the first ingredient and that ground rice is better than corn meal etc.

    on a side note, I did see some dry food at Petsmart that had really good ingredients, best I have seen so far between brands, I dont remember the name though (the price made me forget) It ran around $60 for a 30 pound bag (not a 40 pouind) I looked to see if it just meant to feed less, but sure enough, it recommended to give 3/4 cup MORE food than the Iams did

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

    we are told alot of things..

    Not all Diamond starts out with corn ..LArge breed puppy is lamb and rice. Another thing you need to look at is protien. Too high of protien can be bad for a dog..
    one thing I really like about diamond is that they stick with the same ingreidents and make thier food the same way everytime.

    I've been feeding Diamond (Lamb and Rice or the green bag..but I do notice more shedding withthe green bag..I usually just feed that in the winter) for years and honestly I cant tell any differences between feeding them that and the more expensive brands For puppy food I do like the chicken soup... but I will use the large breed diamond or usually stay with pro plan puppy.

    Yes, I've always hear to to look for kibble with meat as the first ingredient but did you know that pet food companies are not required to list ingriendents in order of abundance like human food has to. One thing thats important is the pepsin digestablitiy (or exactly how much of the food your dog eats is digestable) and you have to call the company for that. (lamb and Rice is corn and wheat free by the way..it runs 20 to 22 bucks for a 40 pound bag..)

    If you are happy with waht you are feeding your dog, then stick with it. Some dogs react differently to certain kibbles ..its what your dog does best on

    That is WAY too much protein in Evo!

  14. I heard Innova EVO is the closest to the BARF diet. Very pricey though, approximately $40 for a 28 lb bag.

    is it good food though i am looking at it is it any good or just pricey

  16. I'm trying to find out as well. One of my co-workers feeds his dog Innova senior and his dog appears to be doing very well on it. But I haven't heard much about EVO. I've tried different kibble (Diamond, Eagle Pack, Nutro Natural & Nutro Max) and haven't really found one that works well with my dog. I'm going to give Canidae a shot once my 16 lb bag of Eagle Pack is gone. Eventually I might give EVO a shot during the summer with it's high protein level.

    I feed all of my dogs nutro-max it has what ever meat as the first ingredient. I've been told always go with anything that doesn't uese meat by products. It's a little more in the medium price range about $30/ 4 a 35lb bag and about $25 for the adult. But there's a sale pretty much all of the time on Nutro-max at the place I get their food. There's also a breeders program every 10 bags you get one free.Equal or lesser value. I have 2 cards for that one for the smaller bags (when I don't have the money) and one for the 35lb. It's pretty good.

    Oh! I forgot my cousin's friend works at the diamond plant just out of town and he says it's one of the nastiest places he's ever worked for. Not in the sense that the factory is dirty but what ever falls in the food stays in the food. Rats,dookie,bugers and I've heard him say worse. The bags of food that fall and get busted get swept up with whatever off the floor and get repackaged. I'll never feed my dogs that. I almost did. I heard that sensible choice is a good food that costs about the same as Nutro-max. Might want to try that.

    Bully Boi your dogs don't get sick from the catfish? I heard that fish is poisonous to dogs. I fed one of my pits fish one time and he lost almost all of his weight,started to lose hair in spots and wouldn't eat for nothin. After about a week I had to call animal control because I couldn't afford a vet at the time. Solid white rednose gone. I swear that dog was human.

    Mudville what kind of fish were you feeding your dog? Maybe he was allergic, but my dog eats fish all the time. it has essential fatty acids in it that they need. But fish is NOT poisonous to dogs.
