Best form of exercise

what i like to do is take my dogs out to a pond or stream and throw a ball so they run on the ground about 30 yards then jump in the pond and swim anohtewr 15 yards..... good combo of running swimming and jumping

 

I like riding my four wheeler with my dog following me!

 

im no expert, but (Try) to work my boy 5 days on & 2 rest days.

were doing all cardio right now, but when i get a pull harness id like to do 3 days of cardio on the bike (& swimming) & 2 days of cardio & resistance with 2 rest days!

 

Right now i work my dogs 4 times a week. There workout is mostly biking, flintpole, and springpole but twice a week i have them play tug a war against each other. i also have them swim during the summer and fall.

 

prob not the way is should be done but i just toss mine in shallow water. they always just start swimming then discover they love it. Mine actually swim faster than ducks. they swim after them but when they get close the ducks just dive. they get a HELLA workout doin this lol

 

Nice long walks and a flirt pole does the job.

best way to get them to like swimming is make them like water.
to do that you need to make every experience with the pool a pleasant one. i would start him off young (bout 4 months) and take him with you into the shallow water maybe up to his chest and slowly make progress.
THE KEY IS MAKING SURE YOUR PUP KNOWS HE CAN ENTER/EXIT THE WATER AT HIS OWN CONVENIANCE!!!
that way he doesnt relate a truamatic/negative experience with the water.

 

THe bast way to get a dog to swim and like water is to bring anohter dog along that swims well.. i did that with mine and in no time she swimming

 

LOL Tried that before had one go swimming with a 140 lbs Lab my dam dog almost drowned cause they were playin tug of war with a stick and he wouldnt let go even fully under water dont think id try that again lol!!!

yep thats how mine was... as she got a little older though she is a very good swimmer.You8 from CA i bet yall have some good lakes and streams to go swim in.... evreything over here is shit brown... Do yall have any poisan snakes in the water at CA?

 

i dont think so, though we might. im not really the nature boy type so i wouldnt know. but we do got good lakes around and my aunt owns 33 acres with a good size stream, in the summer i throw a tennis ball against the current for him to retrieve, where its not deep enough to swim, its about chest high! chrystal clear water.

 

ok my pup is now 6 months old and he is not getting well with my friends' dogs and not sure if they like swimming.

I'll try introduce water out when the weather permits or during summer. it should be fun. do you clean them up after? like washing em up when they get home?
