Thanks ShakaZ, for letting them know what the original question was, how did we get into pigs & yotes. I think I put in UPPER CASE what I was wanting to hear about. I think Marshall even tried to get back to the subject at hand. Thanks again!! Really sounds like people don't think much of HIM (BAAAD ASSSS) anyway.

sorry stratos, i cant get sidetracked at times...back to your question, while i havent seen anything off this dog, i do trust Macs opinion. if he likes what he has, im betting its worthy of feed.

This is for Gameone: Just curious, how old was he when you witness this outing that you come to the conclusion of "without a doubt he is a CUR". Back to the post, Wonder why respected breeders would continue to use him when they probably have 2 or more proven Studs around. And PLEASE!!! leave all breeders names out of this. If you know them, just keep it to yourself, OKAY!! And Mac11 thanks for your imput, this was the kind of replys (Good or Bad) that I was looking for, just for the record the Internet will not make my final decision on which way I'll go. But thought it would get some opinions out in the open. IMO, I think he is a pretty good bred dog and is surely capable of producing with a little help from the other half.

its all in who owns the dog, leave this line alone, get some good papered dogs, I have the papers for mine but used them to wipe my nose n out the window they went, thats what ignorant folks say about their dogs fightin other dogs rather than hogs, that they would go after other dogs, u gotta train yer dogs if you know how, and dont bring ignorant people or ignorant dogs to a hunt, game dogs do fight harder than others, plus they are lighter, easier to get thru tight spots, learnn the hard way, and dont break any laws...and stratos you may wanna already have all you need to know before you get a dog. internet guys will always show you there is always another side not because there is but because there can be,

catch dog your post is pretty ignorant in itself. just how do you train out something that been bred in these dogs? fighting hogs is the last thing you want your "catch" dog doing hence the name of it's purpose "catch dog". if you need to train your dogs to catch maybe a new breed should be thought about. most folks i know say "they got it or they don't" not much training involved when you have dogs bred for a certain job. you bet your ass apbt fight better then any other breed. but fighting & catching have little to do with each other.

Ding ding ding we have a winner...lol
I use some of my dogs to catch but like Ben said some just dont have it in them...I have a dog who's more then glad to meet a boar head on but i'd rather him not catch on the nose and shake his hold out...lol
I also have a 7month old Sixbits/Carver cross at about 26 lbs who was watching from her chain spot one day while i was testing some prospect catch dogs to see if they would catch or fight with the damn thing..anyway the next moring i went out to throw some corn in the pen and he was layin on top of her...she was still fighting and he was exhausted and torn open but she wasnt done... later he died from his wounds...so yeah regardless of what people think some bulldogs (gamebred) just dont catch and hold...they catch and rip, tear, shake regrip and restart..idk bout Catchdog but i dont need a kill dog for hog hunting..

Stratos bro if you think its worth feeding then go for it...its a big gamble regardless of what line you choose

experience will tell you, your big catch dogs will get hit and quit, this can happen, I see those jokers all the time talkin that nonsense bout bigger is better, I like using what I use, you use what you use, Im speaking from experience, not speculation or papers talk, take that and do what you want with it, I am not exaggerating, if they dont work I wouldnt feedem, i dont have pets on chains or kennel pets, only workin dogs, these animals are placed with me I dont buy dogs. good luck shootin from the hip, even good box dogs can change holds on command, if you dont think so please elaborate on your style

i don't think i ever said anything about size ? sure some folks use apbt as catch dogs but i don't think there down from box dogs. for the most part folks use cat, cur, redbone,ab,hounds, & crossed dogs for catching. experience will tell you that lol back when uncle earls or the rodeo's the indian's put on you wouldn't see many apbt at all if any. "elaborate on my style" that's easy flip'em & stick'em as quickly as possible. having a "catch" dog catch not fight the hog stay out of the way of the hogs tusks, you are the only person i ever hear talking about fighting a hog lol. "can change holds on command" let me guess you can train for that as well.

I guess Catchdog has his on style and seems to work for HIM in what ever he is doing. But, Damn I have read it 3 or 4 times and don't have a clue what he is trying to tell me about an Offspring. As far as Size goes, didn't ever seem to make much difference if a dog was 25-75lbs. they either was worth the feed or wasn't. Somebody explain what he is talking about changing holds on Commands on a hog or what, just can't grasp what he's putting out there. But, sometimes it takes me a while...Am I missing the whole story or what???

well you are startin to make a lil sense but cmon you know full well those crosses or runnin catch dogs only work well when in a pack, you deal with overheatin, exaustion ,frostbite, crossin water, gettin flung ,fence wounds, thorn n briar wounds, n the list goes on n on into why most dogs give up, the gamedogs have a high prey drive that others arent bred for. i feel like Im defending what most on here are, and yes i can get my dogs to do what I need em to in a reasonable way, i aint the dog whisperer, its really about socializin, and familiarizin. dicipline and smart dogs go a long way, but its all who works them, every line has flaws including BA,

look im not sayin its not possible to hunt with them ( i do) but i make sure if im bringin a male bulldog my buddy's bring all female curs and vice versa..i dont go with one guy anymore because he insisted on I let my dog go when i knew it was to crowded in the thicket and he ended up tearing up another male catch dog..by the time we got to them the hog was gone and my dog had bay dogs caught on him while he was caught on the other catch dog...alot of the time its just not worth it

for me hunting with 3-5 catch just makes scenes. safety in numbers so to speak only downside is flip'n & stick'em because there are a lot of dogs on the hog. from what i seen the apbt gets hot & makes too much noise. once the bay's start to bark they flip out & damn neer tare your arm off trying to get loose. the other downside is too much work go into breeding quality apbt. when you can get hog dogs a dime a dozen. it's never cool to loose any dog but i could sleep a lot easier knowing i lost a dog from the bargain trader & paid 500$ for the whole litter. as oposed to loosen a dog i bred evey dog in all 4 generation of the pedigree. sure some can catch that's a fact i just think a dog bred for a certain job is better of doing what it is there bred for.

not to take a side either way, but i've read an acct. in a historical circulation where one dogman DID have his dog trained to change holds on command, and it wrecked the front end of the opponent before being directed to his backside where he killed his opponent in the box.

this dog was supposed to be extremely intelligent, and it was his wife's house dog. it never went back out after it's first and only match. story went it was "couch conditioned" but had been briefly schooled as a young dog and had a bond with the man like no other....it knew what he was telling it to do. so much so that it killed the other dog before they had a chance t pick it up.

    sorry to stay off topic.

yes CK there have been a few that did that. but for the amount of dogs that were match in history the % of the ones that did it would be very small. & i would be cautious of any dog that wasn't 100% focused on the task at hand. & beer can & break stick has cost a match or two so anything outside the norm i woulfd be iffy of.
