I agree with Tex; DW made a fortune off the garbage he was into. 2000 ki's? I doubt it was that much, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if it were. He shouldn't have involved the children or the dogs in that kind of life. I feel bad for them, but he deserves the book they're going to throw at him.

No sympathy for the devil here.

I figured there had to be somrthing else then what the guy wrote. Man just wants to use the pitbulls to try to get money for his broke butt. People will do anything for free money.

Ok, so DW used to be with DSK, but DW is the one who had Coachise on his yard? Maybe I'm hearing too much rumor mill, so I'm confused about who is what.

so they were after him for other reason than dogs to begin with, and kinda stumbled onto a lead about the dogs? From what he wrote it seems like spca has been out there before in reference to yard conditions. The kennels looked pretty upscale($$$$) to me. In a drug bust of that magnitude wouldnt they seize the property? What kennels went down in that string of busts?

His bust was a result of a 2-3 year investigation of Mexican Pete and others. He had many thing going against him… way too open, drugs, etc. all add up to the inevitable… A BUST!

I agree with Tex. The bust was a result of his own actions & his lack of "secrecy". This was intended as a huge drug bust & the dogs were just an added bonus. It's a shame...(for the dogs & children)

It was in Franklinton Louisiana It was Darren Willaims think. and i think i was more than 70 dogs. I seen pics of the dogs they were all in good shape none of them were cut up or any thing. maybe a scratch on a few. but that could be from any thing. it was out right murder. One of his dogs was worth like over $40,000!!

kwatts, we all know what those dogs were used for. They weren't just "pets". A dog doesn't get a $40,000 price tag for lookin good. I'm sorry, but again........when you mix drugs, dogs, & a loud mouth, you know what's gonna happen. They had several raids back to back, not only b/c of the drug/dog connection, but because of "spealers" (those people who are quick to rat you out b/c if they're goin down so are you). Everyone knew what he was doing. It would take a blind, deaf, mute man to have not known. This raid was a long time coming & wasn't about the dogs initally, they were just the "icing on the cake" so to speak.

Here are a couple of links for you to see. If you read the article,DW's only drug charge was simple possesion of marijuana. KW was busted for the cocaine.They went to DW's yard after they busted KW.

Who said I hated him? Who ever said I even disliked his dogs? All of y'all are talking shit, not me!! darren was knowledgable dogman who had some GREAT dogs! I never said otherwise! I never discredited him for that. Some of ya'll need to do more reading and less judging. If you want to stay safe (in terms of dogs), keep your shit quiet, otherwise just march your little asses on down to the SPCA & hand over your dogs. That's what too many "friends" (aka snitches) & public (internet) broadcasting will do for you. LOL

FRANKLINTON -- Back-to-back raids by Louisiana State Police in the past 48 hours have dealt a powerful blow to dogfighting in the state, revealing a far more lucrative, organized and widespread industry than previously imagined.

In a carefully choreographed sequence of arrests and seizures, the State Police Casino Gaming Section, assisted by the New Orleans-based Louisiana Society for the Protection of Animals, targeted an alleged dogfighting ring in Church Point on Wednesday, followed by a raid Thursday of an alleged major-league breeder and trainer of "game" pit bulls outside of Franklinton.

In Wednesday's bust, state troopers seized 43 pit bulls allegedly bred and trained to fight by Pedro "Peter" Mendez Ramos of Church Point. That case began as a narcotics investigation three years ago, gaming commander Capt. Joseph Lentini said, but troopers following the drug trail eventually uncovered long-rumored, but extremely elusive, ties to high-stakes dogfighting.

As a result, 15 people were arrested in Louisiana, Texas and Florida and booked with multiple cocaine, marijuana and money-laundering charges, with the lion's share of charges coming from Louisiana, where search warrants were served simultaneously at nine locations. What made the bust even sweeter, authorities said, was the direct link State Police say they uncovered between illegal drug activity and dogfighting.

Seven of those arrested were from Louisiana.

Ramos, 36, was arrested in Brownsville, Texas, while three alleged dogfighting associates -- Keith Olivier, 27, Mindi Bernard-Olivier, 24, and Daniel Paul Doucet, 28 -- were arrested during the Church Point raid, Troop I spokesman Willie Williams Jr. said. In addition to the arrests, police seized a variety of fighting equipment and documents. The information suggested that one of the dogs, named "Handsome," was an undefeated champion that recently won a $67,000 purse, SPCA Director Laura Maloney said.

Ramos and his alleged partners were booked with dogfighting, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. In the past, the statute has rarely been enforced in Louisiana, but a coordinated push by the SPCA and other animal groups has made the crime a top State Police priority, Lentini said.

Although Wednesday's bust gave authorities a peek into the underground blood sport, Thursday's raid yanked the curtain wide open, Lentini said. When more than two dozen troopers and SPCA animal workers hit the road Thursday at 5 a.m., they were expecting to find a dogfighting operation on par with that of Ramos.

As the caravan reached the end of a long dirt road outside Franklinton, it became clear authorities had tapped into something much bigger. The alleged ringleader, 32-year-old Darren Williams, calls his compound Dirty South Kennels, the initials of which were found on everything from concrete water dishes to a large tattoo across Williams' chest.

In the yard next to Williams' double-wide trailer, his spread looked clean and professional, consisting of 30 dog cages in a newly constructed kennel, complete with cement flooring and a pitched roof. The cages housed 28 dogs, only two of which bore the telltale scars of previous fights, the SPCA dog experts said.

But about 150 yards down a hidden trail in the woods, investigators found about 20 additional dogs tethered to crude doghouses fashioned from plastic barrels, many of the animals sporting deep scars. Others had ears that were missing or shredded to the nub. The area was littered with used syringes, dog food bags and empty beer bottles.

At another wooded area about seven miles away, an open-air compound known in dogfighting circles as "The Hospital" housed another 80 or so pit bulls, Troop A spokesman Johnnie Brown said. SPCA veterinarian Dr. Wendy Wolfson said it looked like "a mountain of dogs." She said many of the animals had open wounds, severe scarring and signs of broken limbs that had not healed correctly. In an effort that lasted well into the night, about 130 pit bulls were seized between the three locations and loaded into climate-controlled trucks.

"It makes me sad, and it makes me sick," Wolfson said. "I'm used to seeing people's pets, animals that are pampered."

Wolfson said the pit bulls, bred for maximum aggression toward other dogs, are unsuitable as pets and would have to be put to sleep. The Ramos dogs were euthanized Wednesday.

Williams, apparently aware of the fate his dogs, shouted to the SPCA workers at one point, "You're killing my children's pets. How can you sleep at night? You're murderers."

As he was being led away in handcuffs, Williams again proclaimed his innocence: "It's a witch hunt. Look at my dogs. They're clean, not a scratch on them. I don't fight my dogs." When asked about the scarred and wounded dogs found in the woods, he responded with an obscenity.

Williams was booked on dogfighting and animal cruelty charges, State Police said. In addition, Keith Warren, 32, was booked on dogfighting charges, and Doris Hardey, 46, was booked on charges of marijuana and crack possession. Troopers also seized $9,945, Brown said.

Lentini said this week's raids, coupled with high-profile arrest in March of Floyd Boudreaux -- a 70-year-old Lafayette man so revered in dogfighting circles that his namesake bloodline of pit bulls is coveted worldwide -- should put a significant dent in the Louisiana dogfighting scene. He said in past years, troopers were excited to find more than five pit bulls in a dogfighting raid.

"Now we're getting 100 dogs at time. We've seized about 325 already this year," Lentini said. "It's like we jumped up to the top rungs of the ladder and hit the mother lode. We're cutting into the betting, the fights and the bloodlines. Louisiana has been put on the map with these busts. These are guys who are well-known throughout the country, and these cases should have a significant impact."
