Hey guys, what is your experience on this? I have a rat problem at home, and my pits are so useless, they don't catch any rats. Rats run rings around them... anyone has the same problem?

Maybe you should call an exterminator, rats carry diseases that could affect you and your dogs. Regardless if up to date on shots or not I wouldn't let mine hunt rats. Jmo though to each their own

There good at killing damn near anything on 4 legs especially vermin. Mine kill squirrels, mice, birds, rabbits or whatever they get the opportunity to catch. They are terriers.

my dog sure as hell scared a mouse out of my house...I don't think the mouse was ready to be "hounded" when it got inside one night when I was outside with the bitch and as soon as she saw it she was on it for about two hours until the mouse finally gave up and ran out the house while my bitch was tearing up the storage area where she finally cornered the mouse. I'm sure that if the mouse woulda chanced it eventually my bitch woulda gotten lucky and caught the rodent.

  10. On more than a few occasions I came out in the morning to find dead rats killed by my dogs.

Good point to add. Rats carry leptosperosis (sp?).
We don't have issues much around here with rats but mice are everywhere.

Well I know my cat likes those pesky rodents for sure. Bogart ate a duck and a hamster so he would probably eat a rat if he saw one. But I wouldn't want him to eat rats anyway that is what are cat is for lol.

Get a jack russel. My friends JRT takes on rats as big as him and he isn't one of the puny show fuckers either.

We had a 4 month old pup take down a squirrel! This guys dogs cant rat? Are they Bullies? Cause a real APBT should not have any issues out smarting and catching rats.

My buddy runs a speed shop and his dog is a ratting fool. Its nothing special just scatter bred but true APBT.

Pics of dogs in question please.

Seriously, I have had house dogs stalk and kill flies like its their job. Just stumps me to think a APBT cant rat.

Note: The fly example is one showing the intellect, these dogs are smart and should have no problems out smarting rats.

  18. Got a friend with two JRT's that are ratting pros. Believe me, nothing lives in his yard. They manage to find and kill rats I didn't know we had IN MY YARD when he brings them over. Have to put up the bulldogs when he comes over as they see his JRT's as rats. Twice I've had to pry one of those aggressive little buggers out of the mouth of one of my bulldogs. (Bulldogs as in EB's that is). JRT's will go after anything.

Anything that gets in my yard has this to look forward to. The dog in the pictures daughter ( in my avatar pic) is a bird specialist. Has snatched several on the fly right out the air. I had a cat a few years ago along with a mouse problem and that dog was always quicker to kill the mouse than he cat was. The cat would play with it instead of killing it so mia would see that the cat had one caught and she'd walk over snatch up the mouse from the cat and shake it's life away followed by dropping it back in front the cat as she was giving the cats toy back, dead. Lol
