APBT Breeders in Illinois/Southern Wisconsin

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by The_Diesel, Jun 12, 2013.

  1. Anyone know of any good APBT breeders in IL/Southern Wisconsin? I am in the chicago area and looking for a puppy.

I always wanted to hunt with a dog but I am not interested in bird hunting. I am always watching the hog hunters with dogs on TV but I am in IL and there are no hogs, at least in northern IL....

Does anyone use their APBT for hunting in IL. What do you hunt? I am a big deer hunter and I have land and wanted to maybe hunt raccons and coyotes.

There are some hogs in Fulton County, documented. Im not too far from there. I been wanting to look into it also, but am not sure if catchin them is legal or not. Someone said call a Warden to find out. Never followed through.
Deer meat is a good thing. Add it in the winter bones, fat, and all.
Far as breeders - there are some good dogs around for sure. What re you after? Do you have any dogs already? Land is a good thing.
Welcome to the forum. Best of luck to ya.

  3. Plenty of good dogs in that area. You're gonna have to do your own leg work though. I doubt people are going to just drop names and say call so and so. Just isn't the way it works in this day and age.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys. I have never had a APBT but I have had dogs, most recently a working line german shepherd. Like you guys I prefer the dogs as they originally were meant to be, not some watered down show dog.

Between me my uncle and my dad we have about 3,000 acres in northwest IL, that me and my family deerhunt on and the coyotes and racoons are out of control. We also turkey hunt and it seems turkeys are down because of the racoons and coyotes. I was up in my tree stand bowhunting in the fall and I had 6 coyotes walk by me in a line, almost like a pack. Never saw that before. Wish I would have had my AR15 instead of my bow. We also lease out pastures to beef cow farmers and they were saying we got to cut down on the yotes. The yotes cant really take down a cow or even a calf but their sight stresses the herd which cuts down on eating and breeding.

I have been watching the hog doggin on TV and I am trying to figure out a way to do something like that on our property to contend with the yotes and racoons. Nothing like seeing a good working dog in action.

  5. The IL show is coming up last weekend in Aug in Joilet. Might be able to meet some people there. Don't rush into the first thing you find and you'll be much happier. A couple months can make all the difference between greatness and shit.

Diesel give sometime to make sure you realy want a retarded 4 year old with a gun. If you really do they are around, just be honest with yourself on what kind of dog you want and you will be happier in the end.
