They were probably pretty much the same dog at one time. Through selective breeding there looks have changed. SBT has been selectively bred for looks for a long time while the APBT has been selectively bred for athletic performance for a long time. Over time selective breeding can really change the look of a dog. For example look at bull terriers and English bulldogs of today compared to 100 years ago and no other breeds have been added but looks are far different.

Dam1985 is you don't bullshit us. I looked myself same shit word for word. If you had any brains in that thick skull of yours you would of left the 1985 part out but then again your not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Well there you go, the APBT is doing the same job that the dogs of the British Isles were doing when dogs were matched. Now tell that to your boyfriend who believes the APBT is younger than the show bred Staff.....

When the British game dog was sent to America some of the American fighting dogs that they had over there before the British dogs got there went into the British line to create the American pitbull terrier what American breeds went into the mix I don't know

Catahoulas and "cur" type dogs were here I'm sure. Mountain curs and balckmouth curs. Where do you think the merle color, "tick mark" color, and one blue eye come from? Lots of APBT have black in their mouths as well. Different breeds were added everywhere they stopped I believe. What ever worked is what they used I'm sure

Look at Stafford's before 1935 now look at American gamedogs today there has definitely something been added the genetics of the pitbull are 99% early English Irish dogs but there is definitely something else in the American dog today maybe some rugged hound they put in in the early days or maybe some farm bulldog you can see with your eyes there's a difference I'm not on about selective breeding for performance as to why the American dogs look like they have something added because if nothing was added they would still look like Joe mallens gentleman Jim or a bit before gentleman Jim

I thought (read) that the blackmouth was coming from Earl Tudor, that came from the Henry dogs.

I think you mean the dogs from the Alani tribes, they came from the Iran/Pakistan & North India region:

There is a myth that's been about awhile is Earl Tudor imported Staffordshire bull terriers right up into the 50s puting them in his line they say the Stafford had a stronger bite and earls dogs were known for a strong bite but I couldn't find any proof to this story. to import Stafford's right up into the 50s there must of still been some goodens left they say we're did all this black came from in the eli and other stuff could it be from earls secret ingredients getting dogs from the bulldog mother land

It is a very interesting story.I think its very possible, especially when we consider how many other Dog Men from USA used Staff blood in thier programs.
