I'm going to assume that you are referring to me. That quote was made by non other than Mark Twain & was also loved & said by President F.D. Roosevelt (& many others). And you can bet your ass it has more meaning & is meant to have a deeper meaning than what your small literal ass can grasp.

For your information, it was a quote bestowed unto me by my late grandfather as I was considered a very small athlete (soccer player) at only 5 ft. & 100lbs & wanted more than anything to play on scholorship in college. At the age of 12, my grandfather had this quote framed for me to remember that it's what is on the inside--the fight, the desire, the passion--that counts. Not just physical size.

But obviously you cannot grasp that concept.

And if you make one more acusation of someone being a dog fighter (me included!), I will ban you myself. You have already been warned once. Obviously you don't want to understand the truth about your lack of knowledge. Pity, because we need more understanding & educated owners of this breed. But again, you start flying off the mouth with acusations that you cannot PROVE, you will be dealt with. Last chance!

And being a responsible breeder means MUCH more than just breeding & getting the puppies shots & wormed. But that's a whole other thread. Please refer yourselves there to find out the truths & facts behind breeding these dogs.

Alot of people on this site have dogs that were either adopted from shelters or rescued. Please do not breed your dog. 14rock's post gives enough reasons not to breed your dog. If those aren't enough reasons, here are some things to think about. Are you prepared to get your female's hips tested to make sure that she won't have hip dysplacia? Do you have the money to breed these animals? Do you have the money to make sure every one of the puppies gets brought to the vet, gets its shots, and is very well taken care of. Are you prepared to take the puppy back if someone decides that they don't want it?

Breeding for the kids in the neighborhood is not a good idea. Most children don't realize that a dog is a full time responsibility. They like the dog for a while, and then what happens? The dog may get abused or put into shelters. Think about that for awhile.

I hope that bronx has learned somethings about why he should not breed form this thread. But to say that everybody on this site breeds their dogs that is not so. I have been keeping bulldogs for 17 years and have only breed one litter in that time.

always pay attention to what the dog is bred from. If you want a big fat dog, then look for lineage that produces that. Genetics plays the main role in the full devolopment of a dog. Dog food, supplements, sterioids usually only temporary alter a dog. Once you get the dog off a cettain dog food, suplements, or steroids, it will usually go back to what it was before. Next time you buy a dog, carefully examine the ancestry of the dog and make sure the ancestors carry the genes or qualities you are looking for in a dog.

There is absolutely NO need to use body building/size building/muscle building supplements on your dogs. Those that do are only showing their ignorance to the prefered methods of canine conditioning: good, proper nutrition & exercise.

I feed my dog tex purina one and you can look at his results from the food and just working him. look under straightgame and youll see him be4 and after shots

  13. A suppliment serves as extra nutrition....so if someone want to give their dogs the best food, exercise them the way they should, and on top of doing all of that, give them even MORE of the nutrients they think they need...I dont think anyone has the right to question it or tell them they are ignorant.

However, if you have a lazy house pet that you want bigger, bulkier, fatter...whatever...I would agree with Miakoda.

  14. rocksteady

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

actually, no ... there is no reason besides maybe that the dog suffered from sickness, is pregnant or has special medical needs that would require extra nutrition ..or in the case of BARF feeders who must add some types of vitamins..

Reason being, is that everything (vitamins, minerals) MUST be in balance with each other. Too much of one vitamin or mineral could cause a lack in another or cause such things as kidney and liver damage, not being able to absorb a certain needed vitamin, over abundance of one , the problems go on and on. Even adding certain food to your dogs daily kibble could be messing with the balance..

Giving MORE of these nutrients can and will harm your dog, end of story. Ever hear the phrase all things in moderation?? It really does apply here.
So sorry..but adding extras to your dogs food could harm your dog more than help it, esepically if you are feeding proper nutrition in the first place..

DONT feed wet food. Its garbage, and makes smelly shit for you to clean up.
Feed him twide daily, measured amounts. LEave the food down for 20 minutes. If he chooses not to eat fine, pick it up. The next time you put food down he should be hungary, whether he eats or not, do the same thing, 20 mins is all he gets.
do NOT feed him table scraps or treats. He will learn that this is when he gets to eat, when hes hungary, he'll eat, trust me.
Giving him wet food to eat is only going to make him a finicky (sp?) eater. Hes trained you to give him the good stuff.
It will only get worse with time, ive seen it a billion times
Also, if hes not eating all of his food, you are probably feeding too much. You want him to scarf his food down, not pick at it.

That brand got bought out like Evo not too long ago and the quality went downhill from there. It's your average joe supermarket brand now with lots of fillers. I personally use Fromm but there are probably better out there but they haven't had a recall yet which is more than I can say about lot of the other foods out there. Raw or BARF are always a better option if you are willing to take the time.

  19. The quality of Evo has not went downhill one single bit.
