Another Puppy Found Dead in Polk County Creek

POLK COUNTY, N.C -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating another gruesome discovery in Little White Oak Creek.

That's where a dead young female pit bull mix was found one month ago. A few weeks later another dead puppy of the same breed was found just feet away from the first one.

That creek along Toney Road is in the Mill Spring area of Polk County.

Gwen Ring, who walks in that area often, is the one who called authorities both times after finding suspicious bags below a bridge.

"The first was in an animal crate was right there. And the second one in the plastic bag was over there," Ring said. "We immediately knew that something wasn't right, something was off."

Ring's suspicions were right both times with a dead puppy found in each of the trash bags.

"It's really disheartening to see that that's what someone thinks they can do to an innocent animal," Ring said.

This was News 13's second visit to that bridge, but this time our crew noticed the skeletal remains for multiple animals underneath that bridge.

"Somebody that could commit an act like that you just can't stomach," Ring said "It's not something you want to tolerate or see within where you live."

Sheriff Donald Hill is offering $1,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the latest case. That's in addition to $1,800 for the first puppy found on August 3.
