I wanted to know if ABs are being hit as hard as APBTs by BSL? Are they banned & regulated as much?

    Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks! :)

I haven't heard anything, but I'm sure they will be because they are often mistaken for APBT and vice versa...I know at work that people constantly ask if Phantom is an AB...Sorry I don't have anymore information than that

Of course they have mistaken ABs for APBTs. Remember the dog they euthanized on HBO?

In Denver it is as far as I know. I had a friend who moved to Denver about 2 years ago with her family and their American Bulldog. She knew nothing about the ban and went to the shelter to get some info about updating her rabies tags- she heard a rumor that the shelter did it for a discounted rate. She didn't have her dog with her -thank GOD- she just stopped in on her way home from work to inquire. The woman barely acted interested in giving her the info about the vaccine, she was more concerned with the type of dog she had. When she said "American Bulldog" the woman's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and she said "Is your dog HERE?" with way too much excitement. When she said no the woman sounded disappointed and said "Well that's probably a good thing for you if your dog was here I'd have to confiscate your dog". So my friend -shocked- sped home and called her mother and they made mad quick arrangements to sneak the dog to the airport and have her flown back to Georgia. The whole family moved back within 6 months.

Holy crap....that sucks...a friend of mine drove through Ohio, got pulled over for a busted light on her van...saw the dogs, cop was nice enough to "escort" her to her dog show one state over.

  6. BSL has been strictly enforced in Denver. Actually, there is a stawide ban in Colorado on specifically naming breeds in dog legislation, but the city of Denver (and a few others) is grandfathered on homerule and still legally able to enforce BSL. The city of Aurora (in the Denver area) actually currently has a ban on the APBT as well as American Bulldogs, Dogo Argentinos, Canary dogs, Ca De Bous, Tosa Inus and Cane Corsos. In Aurora, current owners can be grandfathered if they register their animals within 60 days of the law being passed, obtain liability insurance and spay/neuter. There are three cities that you'd really want to avoid if relocating from a BSL perspective...Denver, CO., Tacoma, Washington, and Miami. FL. I am not sure if those other two enforce on the Am bulldog though. I hope that's helpful.

Anywhere where there is a BSL Law with 'substantially similar characteristics' included in the law, there will be a problem with AB's. :(
