  1. Hey everyone,

I'm Andrew, the proud owner of Max Power and Meaty, two APBTs that are 1 year 4 mo and 3 years respectively.

I got my first "pit" in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy. Everyone thought that Lady was just a runty pit bull until someone pointed out that she was actually an Am. Staff. In 2015, we adopted Max Power from a former neighbor who had a litter of puppies and didn't know what to do with them. I picked him out of the litter because he was the only dog not excitedly eating the shoes my girlfriend was still wearing, or anxious and huddled up in their bed. He's very smart and has been a joy to train, especially once I figured out his prime motivator is playtime. During his first vet visit, our new vet couldn't believe how calm he was and cautioned us on the dangers of giving puppies anxiety medication to calm them down.

My girlfriend and I made it our special mission to make Max a pit bull ambassador because many people are terrified of this big softee. Its sad to say that many people cross the street when they see us walking or take their dogs out of the dog park when we come in. We are making progress with his 'ambassador' training. Many of our former neighbors who were once scared of him are now excited to see him, They even encourage their kids to pet him!

We were floating the idea of getting a second pit to keep Max company and give him something else to bother other than her cat. Yesterday was a rare free day when we had nothing planned, so we went down to Sean Casey Animal Rescue to donate some dog food that Max couldn't eat due to allergies. Thinking that this was a good opportunity to see how he got along with other dogs in a non-park/playtime session. Unfortunately, as many on this board know, pits are often hard for shelters to adopt out due to their size and reputation, so we decided to walk Max with a bunch of the pits they had on hand. One of them was a three year old pit named Milkshake, who was found tied up and abandoned in a park with a female pit named Smoothie. Smoothie went straight to the rescue and was quickly adopted out while Milkshake went to ACC where Sean Casey saved him again once they had room. He's a very sweet boy and getting used to his new home. By the way, we renamed him Meaty because this pudgeball is the same size as Max but 20lbs of chub heavier.

Max is the guy on the left.
