An attentive driver noticed debris in the middle of the street a week ago and avoided a collision.
However, a closer look by Tony Winter revealed the debris was a crate and inside it was eight pit bull puppies.
Winter decided to donate the puppies, four male and four female, to K-9 Bed and Biscuit, a no-kill animal shelter.

Rachel Kruidenier, owner of K-9 Bed and Biscuit, said that her shelter receives animals in this type of fashion all the time. According to Kruidenier, dogs have been to tied the shelter's fence posts, cats have been left inside crates at the shelter's doorstep and once a dog was tossed over the shelter's fence.
Most of these animals are in poor health and require special attention. The puppies saved by Winter are in good condition.
The puppies are American Pit Bull Terriers. They are about eight weeks old. All of them are up for adoption.
Kruidenier, a pit bull owner herself, assures that despite negative stereotypes of the pit bulls, the dogs make good pets.
"They're not the Cujo the media has made them out to be," she said.
Pit bulls actually once earned the nickname "nursemaid's dog," for their reliability with young children.
"They're really smart," Kruidenier said. "They're really eager to please."
However, Kruidenier said that pit bulls need to be socialized amongst children, people and especially other animals to develop a playful personality. She said this would be easier for pit bull puppies since they are at the prime age to be easily socialized.
Kruidenier reminds potential owners that pit bulls also require at least 20 minutes of exercise a day.
"They're terriers, so they are high energy dogs," she said.
Adopting one of the discovered pit bull puppies will cost $125, however the dogs have been spade or neutered, received their shots, checked for worms, plus tagged and given a microchip. "They're puppies, they're friendly and outgoing," Kruidenier said

Good article. I just hope that when they adopt them out, they also mention that DA isn't a negative trait, but a genetic trait, and can occur not matter how much socialization they have, but they probably don't.
