i had a conversation with a guy about dogs. he asked what i had so i told him american pit bull terrier. he said you may have a fightin dog but my akita will woop its ass. we had an argument over that for a while, he was talking about pits fight on the ground and akitas fight standing. SO WHAT? he said a pit can fight real good on the ground but when its standing it cant do much, so i tell him ok if you would say that then when that akita is on the ground it cant do nothing. "akitas were ment to fight polar bears"

but in all reality an akita is no match for a bulldog.

Akita are no joke, when i first got into dogs, i met this guy who had a akita as his yard dog. Elmo, the akita, was one tough son of a gun. He quit alot APBT's in his day as well as quit to some himself. Its hard to get past the fur of an akita, they can bite pretty damn good too. Pound for pound though, nothing beats the APBT, its been tried and proven over the last hundred years or more. JMO

lb for lb APBT wins but not many 40 lb Akitas out there lol. I wouldnt want my dogs who r 36 the biggest one facing a 100 lb any dog that was in good health.

I had an insident about a month ago with my neighbors akita. He is 4 yrs old and weighs 90 lbs. He would rountinely get loose and roam the neighbor hood beating up all the local strays. All my neighbor could say is that he is the toughest dog around, I told her just to keep him out of my yard and everything would be great. Well I came home from work to find the akita in my yard fighting one of my male bulldogs (46 lbs) on his chain, by the time I made it over there the akita was looking a way out.:D I broke my bulldog off and the akita ran home and got back into his yard and hide. My bulldog had a cut above his eye and on top of his head, the akitas nose was almost ripped off and was bleeding from his face as well. I called the cops and filed a report they told me that my dog was not at fault and to take my dog to the vet and give the bill to my neighbor. She was understanding and payed the bill with no complants. I havent heard anything else about her dog being all that.

I knew this guy who kept an Akita as a guard dog & man let me tell you. He was no joke.

But remember...APBT's are bred for gameness. Akitas are not.

My brother use to talk about this crap alot, akitas being able to beat a bulldogs (it's hog wash), the akita was a failed expierment, the APBT was bred for years and years to become what it is today and the akita was built more like from a blueprint of what they thought they were going to get by mixing certian breeds, unfortunatly, I believe they are alot more people aggressive than they are DA. One of strattons books covers this topic and said the akita usually would jump the wall fast and quick like. I like Akitas, just no compitition in the Pit.

    I agree completely.

TOTHEOP: I know this guy who thinks whatever he owns is the best of the best out their and says his gets his dogs from out of town and blah blah blah. Now he has two akitas and he thinks they could kill any pitbull because they are fighting dogs too. Now, I'll just give him the link to this thread here and see what he has to say.

All the Akitas I've known have been mean SOBs. Hated just about everything, not much use in a box but nobody is getting over that fence.

i've owned 2 akitas an honestly they ARE NOT fighting dogs in the least bit BUT they are pretty good when they have to fight out of survival or protection. when i was 8 or 9 years old my parents had a 80lbs unfixed chow chow, well i was trying to feed fucker when he attacked me. my akita didnt agree with the chow's decision an killed it, so i possiblely owe my life to that dog an i was very sad when she passed away. i received 8 stitches in the hand an one bad day.

i dont think the akita is on the same level as the APBT because of their size and head shape (its more narrow, but i think the bite force PSI wise is higher). my akitas were pretty fast an loved to hunt, i remember waking up one night to find a 150lbs 8 point deer dead in the back yard (i have 5 acres) i thought to myself how did a 90lbs dog do that? but hey it happen.

on another note akitas DO have human agression because they are guard dogs an very protective of their owners, there dog agression is fair but no where near what a fighting APBT would be.

My money would always be on the real APBT under cajun rules... And tony, the bite force PSI depends on the individual dog itself.

agreed 100% but mother natures design plays a part to.

narrow mouth = less surface = more force over that area

wider mouth = more surface = less force over that area

look at the design on a wild canine its generally greater on average an its always narrow in the snout.

"According to Carl Semencic, author of "The, World of Fighting Dogs" today's Akita breeders prefer to think of the Akita as a hunting dog. Semencic makes a convincing case for it's being included in the fighting dog category, however, and I well recall, when the Akita first came to this country, it's owners touted it as the breed that would dethrone the Pit Bull as the premier fighting dog of the country. It was perhaps, after he failed to do this that his devotees decided that he was a hunting dog." - from Richard Stratton's "The Truth about the American Pit Bull Terrier", Chapter "The Pretenders". Enough said!

actually in all bite tests performed they found that the dogs with larger heads always had a harder bite than a dog with a smaller head

i have footage from a legal match in russia . a 90 pound akita vs 65 pound pitbull. at about 6 minutes the Akita was looking for a way out of the pit. he curred out . the APBT was just getting started also. and he outweighed the apbt by 30 pounds

well a hyena has alot smaller head than a lion but the hyena bites alot harder

they're both different families of animal, that might explain it.

i dont really think that 1 fight says everything.

i'll agree with the akita being a good hunting breed, its got a good nose, sure footing, size, and prey drive.
