Trying to get everything situated the right way this time around only 20 never really had a mentor worth anything had a couple nice mutts since I was 16 going to call them mutts because they didn’t have any paperwork, but they took down a few hogs but I gave y’all that little insight to ask what would y’all tell to someone starting out I’ve been saving my plan was to get a dog from Garner and just destroy everything around here but I understand the one I get might not be worth the price and also for that price I could buy two or three dogs from another kennel. My goal is to just jump in right with no regrets hopefully one day start a kennel, what do you guys think about that plan or am I going about it the wrong way all other random advice welcome as well as criticism.

Bud your going about this all wrong. Go visit some open yards or some adba shows. See first hand what goes into these dogs. You think the cost of a pup is expensive lol by the time just to raise till 3 your already 5k invested after the costs of the dog plus the time you can't get back.

I'm 51. i got my first puppy around 11-12 off of Snooty-Pool Hall Red bred dog. I'm as cheap as anyone you will ever meet as it simply hurts to spend money in chunks. With that said, the amount of money I have in these dogs can't be counted and the time invested is a hundred times that, probably more.

I have spent just about a lifetime riding up and down the roads doing shit I had no business doing. That was a long time ago. In today's world I would never take the same path.

As an old guy, with no disrespect nor ill intentions.....'hey kid, bump these dogs, go to the pound/shelter and get a mutt. Life will be so much simpler in the end'.

If Tiger can have a sex addiction I can have a dog addiction. An addiction is an addiction and seldom do they end well.

    Just saying.

Listen to slim fr fr addiction is an addiction...and my opinion if u don't addiction to this dogs in some kind of way u not doing it right or even need to do it cause it's that much time an effort that goes into them way before u even gonna get to see if they even a good prospect...unless u 200 percent into game dogs....GAMEDOGS...NOT tryna discourage you away from them but its like having kids on leashes literally that much time and effort

Begin successfully in the game in no different from athletics. Very very few make it to a professional level, and even half of those end up truly fucked up in some type of way. For 97 percent that get involved it all ends in anger, heartache, and wasted time.

Honestly, just get some dogs and enjoy them. Being the man comes at a price, and you gotta pay the cost to be the boss. It’s costs everyone something different. Some are lucky, some aren’t. Be careful who you choose to play with and talk to wisely

It’s 2020 not 1980. If you want a dog or 2 great, you’re taking on a decade or 2 of responsibility. Think in terms of YEARS not dollars. You are young. Your youth is your currency. By far the most valuable thing ever in life. Dollars will come and go and go..time slips away. Spend it wisely.
When I was young there were few laws. I had a few mutts, a few even got a little ‘famous’. I didn’t get rich off dogs I worked for a living, you couldn’t buy a dog from me for love nor money. I had some serious fucking dogs.
A lot of great dogs came and went. My partner and I cared more about the dogs than we did ourselves.
Then thanks to a few men and women whose greed and narcissism was much greater than their intelligence the FEDS got into their little game.
Google the “Missouri 500” just for fun and see how far things can go the wrong way.
Now just keeping a hound on a chain can land you on the 6 o’clock news painted with the same brush as child molesters.
God forbid you’ve got a pooch with a few scars, you could have a visit from local law enforcement, maybe even the FEDS.

Some of the best advise you'll recieve right there for you.

It's a life long commitment that will take your time away from your family, friends and the more important aspects of life. It's a daily workload that doesn't stop because your sick or don't feel like doing it today. Your neighbors will end up judgmental and disliking towards you and most likely regularly report the yapping of a yard of dogs that rarely stops.

Let's not forget that you will be painted with a target on your back from AE and LE both, once you get on their radar. I've spent the last 20 years constantly having to look over my shoulder daily and it's an awful feeling.. It's not all glorious and financially rewarding at all. It's a never ending workload with more downs than ups. If you have a real passion for the breed then one will make it work. If your looking at dollar signs, you'll fizzle out just as fast you came into them. Takes a lot of time and money to do the yard of dogs venture on top of some pretty heavy sacrifices.

    Good luck!

Once one slips up and finds themselves in a legal jam because of the dogs you will never live it down from the people who personally know you. You'll be treated like a damn child molester like Ben said. It never goes away, people do not forget that kind of thing.

Like he said, it aint the 80s. I'd even say it's not the 90s either anymore. Just owning more than 1 or 2 of these dogs you will be labeled by people negatively.

And yes, it most definitely becomes no different than any other addiction out there as to how it affects your lifestyle.

Great advice and some serious 'real talk'.

Little things will make you just about shit in your pants. My sister-in-law works for the state. Her husband was in the birds so no worries there. I'm walking a dog, pulling a set of chains down our dirt road. My land and my business. I did not hear her pull up and as the front end of her white Ford Crown Victoria pulled along side me all I saw was the grill, the front fenders and the emblems on the door. it is like the standard for law enforcement.

Reality is my sister-in-law was visiting her Grand mother.

My reality was everything I ever worked for and had was about to go down the tubes.

    Simple shit.

The worst part is you don't even have to be doing anything wrong at all and you can still end up in jail.

Short story for you, Someone let a dog out of a kennel to steal some pups resulting in a yard accident that ended up sending Wardog Kennels to jail for organized dog fighting and illegal gambling. By himself mind you. His dogs got the needle. He went to jail. End of story.

I can't make this shit up about how the constant worry you end up having that while your at work your yard is being confiscated and PTS. All while they waiting to arrest you for no real reason at all other than an axe to grind can eat at you in the back your mind daily.

If your truly dedicated to jumping in the pool none of this information will stop you from doing just that. If your motives are anything other than bettering or preserving the breed as it should be, then it should place some serious doubts in you as to pursuing that venture. Some caution in you at the very least. Go to some shows, meet some people and talk with them. Maybe offer to help them out in their day to day duties with their dogs and see what it takes first hand and then go from there. Or just jump in and buy 10 dogs and run with it. Free country and all. Lol.

    And my best advice..
Don’t break any laws in regards to your dogs, don’t talk about it (like you did above) don’t think about it (intent laws) don’t even look like you MIGHT be doing it (springpole in a tree!!)
I used to tell my fellow fanciers who would listen:
“There’s nothing illegal about feeding dogs and picking up shit”
    Now I’m not so sure..
It’s a new world the Covid19 21st century where a local official can take your Constitutional rights away, no church anyone???
That’s the first fucking amendment in the Bill of Rights right down the toilet without hardly any pushback from the collective sheeple.
Just wait till blind Joe and Queen Kamala get in charge, having a bulldog will be the least of your worries.

Dude, they straight up hosed him bad. It was disappointing to watch. The cop that arrested him had it in for him. She later killed someone in a drunk driving accident and is now currently serving time in muncy women's prison. She was a piece of garbage. He's still trying to appeal it but he's already done the time so what's it matter. Lil miss Geachs sister Bella got put down in all that. 10 other good dogs too. Was a shame.

Though Not before the Anna shelter here used the dogs in a billboard ad for an adoption drive they had.
Then they gave them the needle.
You'll still bring Dan to tears when mentioning it and it's been 3 years.
