A Pitbull becomes a police dog and shows off crime fighting skills in Las Vegas
By Sandra Gonzalez Thursday, March 10th 2016

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — Pit bulls don't always have a good reputation, but one is aiming to change it. Kiah is now a member of one police force.

Kiah is a crime fighting pit bull. This K9 is part of the Poughkeepsie Police Department in New York. She's trained to use her nose to find drugs and fight crime.

Dr David Adebimpe of ScentLogix hid a pseudo-cocaine product to demonstrate how well Kiah can find drugs.

"When trained on this, the dog goes and finds real cocaine, better than trained on real cocaine itself," said Adebimpe.

The substance was hidden behind a car's gas cap and Kiah found it right away.

"You want a dog with high drive, play drive. The ball is a big thing with her. She loves the tennis ball. And that's her reward," said Poughkeepsie Police Officer Justin Bruzgal,

Bruzgul says Kiah was rescued from a Texas animal shelter. He says now that she can do police work, other pit bulls can too.

"To get these dogs that have had these drives to be placed in a police department where you can put them to work and they have a purpose, and they're there to fight crime," said Bruzgal.

Kiah, a formerly abused pet, is now a solid member of the Poughkeepsie police force.

Kiah has completed the patrol part of her training, has been in narcotics training and is on her way to be certified as soon as May.

Very Kool! BUT as the breed in general gets bigger dogs, and is not held to Pit Dog standards eventually they will go the way of the Standard Poodle! "That Dog Cant Hunt"!!! on the other hand I still believe there will be very small pockets of true breeders, culling hard and holding it to the standard that made it popular in the first place! Just A bunch of F#@KED UP piece of legislation to undermind something 80% or more REALLY has no experience with other than what they read!

Sorely needed positive media. A practical, intelligent investment of Poughkeepsie taxpayer's money by the PD.

LOL Are you referring to US Customs Officer "Popsicle"? He was an Ace at finding drugs down in TX that's sure. He intercepted MILLIONS of $$$$ worth of Coke and Weed back in the late 90's There were plenty of stories written about his exploits. Interesting back story on how he got his name and how he became "Top Dog" at Customs.
Elias you brought him up......Take it away.......

Kudos to them. I love any positive reports of APBT'S. Anything that shows they are not the monsters the media portraits them to be.

I remember popsicle as being on a show like cops or something,,,
the drug task force hi the house and found some coke and the puppy in the freezer,,,
Im not sure if it was plugged in but it seemed that the people hid their statsh there and
when the police hit they tried to flush some,,, I presume that they freaked out
and grabbed the stash to flush it and had the puppy with them and he ended up in the freezer,,,

not till now do I read he was a bait dog but know better than that and seen for my own eyes that the pup hadnt been in the freezer long...

well the drug task force ende up with him and he made history for drug siezures working for customs,,,
I also just found that out as well as the mexican mafia had a hit out on popcicle for his duties!!!

not a fan of the drug war and could only imagine why they would come after dogmen if it wernt for the drug war and its informants,,, but I can praise this bulldog for excelling at his duties that he wasnt bred for,,,
and it shows in the right hands the right bulldog can damn near do anything you ask of them...
