So exactly how can you call a dog that won't lay a tooth game. You have to scratch back to be game

I never subscribed to the all dogs will quit theory. If that was true then there would be no such thing as the term "dead game". All would quit before then.

I believe all dog's can be abused and ruined by poor dog people. Good dogmen who look after and manage their dogs, usually have a higher percentage of dog's turning out Imo.

Why are you getting so emotional? All you had to say was NO you've never seen a cold one take its death , its that simple LOL.

I don't believe all will quit either, I've seen some purposely tried to make stop that wouldn't. I can concur that a dog being cold is different from the cur, but I can't subscribe to the belief that being cold is better than being cur. As far as all dogs having a stopping point, yes all curs do. But imo the living dogs that we call deep game most would turn out to be dead game if one was so inclined to waste a good dog and do what was necessary to find out. A truly cold dog to me is something that I can't truly understand, I mean I understand what they are but why the hell they are like that just mystifies me. Someone mentioned it could be some form of retardation of some sorts and I might could see that because the only one truly cold dog I've had was as dumb as the Alabama summer is long.

Some old timers said that a pure cold dog, is the gamest of all. I have no opinion on the subject, but it is very interesting, psychology wise, what is going on in their head.

Usually there is fight or flight. Only with gamedogs, sometimes we have neither of these. And I'm not talking about the fearfull shocked status that you cannot move your feet to flight...

The definition of a cur dog is pretty accurate. It chooses flight.

If some people don't want nothing to do with cold dogs, I find nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, almost all of the great dogs had cold ones in their peds, if not all!

Just another thought. While a breeder that hates cold dogs and cull them, if the level of gameness of his stock drops? He sure has hot stock but not so game after a few gens... Not possible? A very weird scenario but genes and all of that are still a big mystery even in scientists!

If you dealing with hot quick starters that cur, definitely! But like you said the psychological take on it is interesting

please explain how a cold dog is displays anything other than being cold or some feel cur???

The differences of fight dont necassarily show gameness just as most curs dont choose flight,,, they stop theres a huge difference in jumping the pit and not scratching...

If a cold dog takes it but dont give it back or dont scartch to continue,,, thier are cold...

Ive heard of cold dogs that will scratch all day but not take hold,,, I am sure they might be game or stupid...

I think there are two sets of both types,,, cold and game...

The game ones are either genetically programmed to scratch no matter what and others think about it and or do it for thier handelers bond and or command...
The cold ones either dont want to initiate and or fight but some are also genetically programmed to scratch such as the game example...

Some debate if scratching deteremines if they are started while others say taking hold is,,, I tend to lean towards taking hold if I were to chose...

other debates are if the dog takes hold but wont scratch,,, is that a cur or degeree of gameness???
I would say a degree of gameness that lacks tha geneticaly programing to go,,, but they would have to be somehwat game to defend themselves...
Dogs tha fit in the country rules standards fit this catagory,,, since the box made the dog,,, I would say the scratch is the name of the game...

I m sure for every rule there is a exception and it can be argued many ways,,, I often question and counter those whom I admire most and trust thier ideology...

Me niether,,, most can onl be taken to the well so many times,,, but than you got those are dead game dogs as well as some that get tested hard thier whole life with no bit of quit,,, also some that are game no matter thier health,,, age,,,circumstance and these types are truley special as they are rare...
Like the rev heinzl would say...you know a timex,,,take a licking and keep on ticking,,, a true watch dog...

There are plenty Dogs that have willfully taken their death in all states of health and condition. There plenty of dogmen who think about the ones they lost and whished they had send them out in better shape or not sick or recently bred. My point is plenty of dogs went out with the deck stacked against them one way or another and kept coming till they last breath. So as others have said statements like yours is disrespect to the hounds 6 feet under whos last memory was scratchin
