Exactly bama, I knew where it was going when I read that. lol

Ah, I never claimed to be and even stated my inexperience from the start. Didn't mean to piss people off just wanted to share my experience. My assumption is that most ppl on this forum have yards and either kennel or chain their dogs. If the guy is trying to raise the pup in the house, your advice will only go so far. That's like going to a cardiologist for a foot problem. He may know medicine but not the specialty you need.

Then again, maybe that proves that raising these dogs in the house is a dangerous path. Only time will tell I guess.

The other thing that kind of blows my mind - bama you don't believe in pack structure, or the fact that dogs are pack animals? If that's the case, I was wrong that everyone on the forum knows what they are talking about.

They are not wolves and they don't need a pack ! Is this so hard to understand ?

Haha I knew that was prob bs but after seeing her grow up and comparing her to all the dogs I see on this forum, in starting to think their is something to it.

Bama - Why do you think a dog listens to you? Bc it likes you? No bc you give it food and you established order and set the rules That's called being in a pack. How don't you understand this?

You think these dogs decided one day that they don't "need" a pack. Come on man, think this one through it's not hard.

Why do so many dumb bitches refer to the dogs that they own as their "packs"?? This breed of dog does not qualify as a pack animal. If it did, they could be turned loose to socialize together, but they can't so they aren't.

Let's see pics/vid of this dog that's so much better than the ones you see on here? I'm interested.

Look this has been argued several times on here and guess who always gets the short end of the stick ? Its the people like you that think these dogs are pack animals...And also your the ones that make the 5 o'clock news and make things even tougher on our breed and the owners who know and except these dogs as they are.

    Very true bama, well said.

Ah see you got me all wrong. I'm not saying pack like I want the dog to get along with all other dogs and go to the dog park. I know exactly what she is and isn't and I understand the limitations of this breed. I'm doing all that I can to make sure that those 5 o clock news things don't happen. But that doesn't mean that these dogs can't do well in their own "pack". I remember reading in a Stratton book that game dogs can do well with others but god help the dog from outside the home (or something like that). That's exactly why you can't judge whether they are pack animals off of the fact that you can't let them go around other dogs. That's the stupidest comment I've ever heard. I'd like to know how many of you guys raise these dogs in house. It's one thing if you've experienced that these dogs don't take we'll in the home, but another if you kennel them chain them up out back and say "see they're not pack animals!"

I've got to apologize tho, didn't mean to attack, and didn't mean to disrespect. I understand there is a lot of knowledge on this forum and that Im a newb. I'll shut up and send pictures later.

All my dogs get house time on there own, never two dogs together. That's asking for trouble.

One of my dogs stays on a chain all day and comes in at night ! Guess what ? He still doesn't like other dogs. Now its one thing to say they will tolerate and be good with other animals at a young age ...But one day most of them mature to a point were they will no longer play nice..And a small percentage may get along with the opposite sex..But more than likely you can expect them not to get along and if you take this view it will save you some trouble in the future.

And you said you have a TG dog off Caesar right ? Well I don't know what Tom told ya but I would bet that when your dog matures he or she isn't going to play well with others.

Yeah, and to be honest, I kind of get that feeling now. But, I never expected her to be great with dogs, just with people. She's an absolute lamb with everyone she meets, and I'm hoping that will continue. But from what I understand, you really can't tell until the dog matures, bc anything can change.

Overall, I was just trying to help the guy bc I saw my pup do the same things he was describing. I was just dumbfounded that people would suggest culling a dog so young, but it seems like a large majority agree that's a ridiculous idea. It's just unfortunate that those rough behaviors he was describing as a puppy are still continuing.

From what I've been told - if the dog turns around and bites you when you're putting it in the eon or crate, you have a serious problem on your hands. But maybe others could provide better insight.

Start a new account here with another name, start a thread about how Ceasar is throwing man eaters, then come back here and tell everyone "I told you so". Seems to be the thing to do lately....

What does raising them in the house change in their genetic make-up?

  18. otegopits

    otegopits Pup

Nothing Cajun, and I see your point. I'm just assuming its difficult to judge a dogs pack behavior if they are alone in a kennel outside all the time, but I see how that could be a stupid inference. Listen, I'll concede the whole "pack" argument bc I know the negatives it brings - like sounding like some dog whisperer who thinks all dogs should get along and play. I just know that I've seen traits and actions out of my own dog that certainly seem like pack behavior. But it seems like many on this forum disagree so who am I to say.

Hey that's good that your waking up early ! I can give you one more suggestion and that's to go ahead and make this dog a secure chain setup or a very secure kennel no flimsy chain link.Just a suggestion but I would go ahead and do this !
