LANSING, MI - A total of 53 pit bulls were seized in a series of coordinated, cross-county police raids involving the investigation of an alleged professional dogfighting ring.

The dogs have been seized from various homes across Eaton and Ingham counties since the launch of the investigation in April, according to a Lansing State Journal report.

Warrants have been issued for two people allegedly involved in the operation, with charges expected to be filed against three more, police said.

Pending a court hearing, it is likely all 53 dogs will be euthanized, according to Ingham County Animal Control.

The Eaton County Special Response Team, along with Eaton County Animal Control executed a search warrant at about 3:10 p.m. Thursday, July 27, on a home along Thackin Drive where they took 10 dogs into protective custody, according to an Eaton County Sheriff's Office statement.

Ten alleged fighting dogs were seized from a Lansing home Thursday afternoon in an ongoing cross-county dog fighting investigation.

The search warrant was part of a joint-coordinated investigation with several other departments.

Along with seizing the 53 dogs, police seized blank dogfighting contracts, dog conditioning reports and breeding records from a suspect's home, the Lansing State Journal reports.

A total of 46 dogs have been seized in both Ingham and Eaton counties since April. In late July, 26 pit bulls were taken in raids at three separate homes. Investigators believe they were all part of the same ring. All the dogs were taken to veterinarians to be assessed to see if they are adoptable.
