I will chime back in ...if fighting under MMA rules the MMA guy has an overwhelming advantage.

    If boxing, then the boxing.

Of the two the boxer has a much better chance to upset the MMA guy in a MMA fight than a MMA guy would have in a boxing match.

Use MacGregor for an example. He clipped Aldo with a planned shot within seconds. That would be similar to an MMA guy getting clipped early before a MMA guy could dump him.

On the flipside Maywether toyed with MacGregor and carried him til he was ready to no longer be there.

Then it is talent level. Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time and Macgregor did not stand anything more than a puncher's chance from the get go, and not much of that with Mayweather.

The talent level of the two combatants would dictate the outcome as much as the styles involved. If Macgregor had been in there with a 2 bit bum then MMA skills crossover. If Mike Tyson went in on a two bit MMA bum then boxing prevails.

    If that makes sense.

Im playing boxers advocate cause it's my sport of choice.
I do have a couple of friends that practice at MMA gyms.
I had a similar conversation with one of them b4.
He challenged to try and take me down and he did but he admitted that it was harder than he thought. I also reminded him that had I been throwing punches I had a few opportunities to hurt him real bad. He admitted that also. Because I had faster feet and superior foot work I recovered from missed grabs where he we both stumbled much faster and was in position to unload on him.

Slim I believe that an MMA fighter has a much better chance against a boxer boxing, than a boxer and an MMA fighter in an mma fight simply because the MMA fighter still does train boxing while the boxer only trains one very small aspect of mixed martial arts really a small aspect of standup fighting let alone the rest of the distances involved. And obviously the results are not exclusive, but I think consistent. I think the Conor McGregor example is actually a great example for my argument because Connor McGregor did much better in the Boxing match then floyd would have done in an MMA fight. Leg kicks alone. And Floyd is one of the best ever, McGregors not in that conversation.

Slipping certainly does work everything works it’s just a matter of timing and how it’s used in the fight. it’s not that boxing doesn’t work it definitely works. I just feel with everything allowed it’s hard for the boxing to shine.

And I don’t say the boxer has no chance if the MMA fighter wants to just box with the boxer in an MMA fight they(the mma fighter) are fucked regardless of the rules, to be fair.

Agreed. And pretty much what I've been trying to say. It shouldn't win but it can.

Conor did what Floyd let him do.
Which is why as soon as Floyd decided enough it was over.
Conor is lucky Floyd never looked at him as a danger and instead as a money maker.
Someone like Canelo even though not as gifted a boxer as Floyd would have ended Conors career because he/they wouldn't have taken it as a joke/easymoney the way floyd did and realy hurt Conor.
Dana White basically paid Floyd to not out and out destroy his cash crop.
That fight is not an good example

Even though I agree what you said about Floyd allowing the situation to occur, what happened did happen a person with 0-0 record still landed a shots on maybe the best defensive boxer ever more than some seasoned veterans. It would look just like James Tony and Randy if Floyd would be lucky is what I think.

Ah but that's cuz Floyd allowed.
Jose Louis Castillo dropped Floyed and arguably won their first fight. At least I thought he(Castillo) did. But Floyd did out and out whip him in the rematch.
And the greatest defensive boxer ever by far was Pernell Whitaker. Second was Roy Jones jr. In his prime.
    Key words in his prime

I am a boxing fan, and watch a little MMA. I will say MMA fighters boxing skills are very poor and would be much better MMA fighters if they learnt some simple boxing like using a jab and throwing straight punches instead of looping sloppy slow shots.

My bad he didn't get officially dropped in the first Castillo fight but I thought lost when I saw it live and I still think he lost. But Floyd has never lost a professional fight to anyone. Hes undefeated.

On paper he is undefeated. Lost to Castillo,Maidana and the De la hoya fight could of went either way.

It is not like we will get to the bottom of it....LOL...

Agreed. The leg kicks alone would cripple 99.9% of the pro boxers. I think it is maybe the most effective-least used weapon in all of sports.

I guess I am going with having a 'puncher's chance'. Who better to have a puncher's chance than a professional puncher, especially against a non-professional puncher.

As i read the posts I am now thinking that has nothing to do with wither sport. It is the talent of the two individuals in the ring/octagon at the time. Mayweather in a boxing match will toy and carry any MMA fighter in the world. Khabib in the Octagon is going to put any boxer in the world on his back in a matter of seconds and it will be over.

Lessen the talent/superiority amongst their own and there can then be a debate between the two. If ever there were a time to say, "it is apples and oranges".

One thing I know from personal experience is that any skilled fighter that has ever competed on a pro level will knock a average man out in less than 3 minutes. A average man will tire out in a few minutes. My hat goes off to these warriors of any type of Boxing, Kickboxing , what have you..
