Staffords from this era undoubtedly had more drive than nowadays on the whole but they had just gone over an edge from where there is no return as a breed, the likes of mallen, boylan may of been true fanciers to begin with but they pressed the 'nuke button ' for the breeds drive the moment they sat down and pencilled letters to the kennel club.I think people forget this when they talk of the old timers and their dogs in some mystical way. Its the men behind these men and their dogs that didn't seek fame and fortune that i admire, their names and dogs might not be remembered in books but any credit put on the stafford breed goes to these unknown working men,its tragic what happened to a working breed which was hundreds of years old. Any 'kc' show stock from this era is the dying embers of what was once a great breed.

  4. Same here mate...
ive seen vids of mallon and his dogs and his dogs are just shitty little things.
there a vid of him on youtube in a dog show in a pub and the dogs are fucking shite.laughable.
there also a interview with him on youtube, and he may well of been acitive in his younger years, but he most defintly jumped on the bandwagon with the showing side.
there was real dogs in the uk still around in the 1950s.but were they fuck mallons ones lol.and the good ones in the 50s most defintly never came from Staffordsire either lol.
Barnard even says as early as 1920(fighting sports)the best dogs come from up north.
then theres the terrier breeder Nuttal who mentions fighting dogs up north as far as Nuthumberland..
me grandad was a Scouser and had fucking loads of fighing dogs in the 50s.and not one of his dogs was from Staffordshire lol.
but the mysict stafford hey.lol.....yes Smuggler its death nell was sighed as soon as they pertistiond to get it recognised as a kc breed..im even under the impression that to get them registard they crossed other breeds in with them to calm em down.
i no people will say diffrent...
i no people will be curseing me for saying it lol.

I think they bred the aggression out them so todays staffs are no more than caricatures of the old dogs .... My old pal whos had them years always says people now just want the old type as a status symbol and as soon as they start kicking off etc They don’t want it lol

  6. Thats true aswell..lotta daft fuckers go on about the "old"ones, not quite realiseing what the "old"ones were actully bred for..no fun for the avrege pet owner to have a rageing loon of a dog pulling em down the road lol.

I remember years ago talking to AS (sparpit ) and he was saying how rapparee the gladiator etc were a ball ache to take into the show ring :) .... last show i went to they were like a breed apart :(

  9. Fucking blue things do my head in.i no one loon who got THREE blue shit heads.and yup.they all run around in the park together.

Dont no Sparpit (heard the name like)or anything bout staffs.
but i can imagine any dog bred to be sporting would not be to the show fanciers cup of tea lol.
i mean its asking a lot really to expect it to be under control and not screaming exc when its infrount of lots of other dogs.
the two things just dont go.
they bred for the four walls or they not.
plenty the ones what are not have had a chance in the sporting side of things with some sucsess.they must be throw backs to before fucking Mallans day lol.and ones like that should be bred to every other staff to revive the breed.
but as you say no body whats to do that any more and most folk want them to run around the park togerher.
    shame really.....
i love it me when i say for a laugh to some one hows it bred mate?and they either say its a Irish blue(im lost at this lable?)or its a old time staff...couple loons ive seen whith white ones have claimed its a Pyhco dog.lol.couple with red ones claim its Irish red.think they mean Dublin lol.
but Irish Blue?lol.thats what most chavs lable them blue things.were they got the lable from is seriously open to debate, and im all ears if any one knows?

I read something once that said the Rapperee dogs trace back to Mallans dogs?do they?
i aint got a fucking clue about staff blood.

    All the best..

Most of those old boys had dogs, apart from their show stuff ,one old boy i knew kept a family of dogs identical to the skipper dogs, and they were hundred per cent stafford. His father owned the famous jolly roger dog.

Yeah you right,100 per cent but those dogs Rapperee were around in the 70s and 80s,the dogs i mentioned were in the 30s, you have to piss with the cock you were born with, the men i mentioned, started out with dogs in the 60s and 70s and even earlier, they had to use whatever was available, one of the men i mentioned was a founding member of Limey kennels,he bred a lot of their dogs down his place,he kept dogs like nellis down there.Back in the day he owned a stafford called Tarw, this dog was open, and the man travelled,to find the action. I have never seen a ped or anything documented about this dog,no match reports or fuck all,but the dog was a legend down our way, i never seen a ped or anything.but the man had as high a regard for this sbt as any other dog, he owned or was ever connected with.Of course the rap dogs as a whole couldn't compete with the apbt, but the argument overall is futile, regardless they may have been among the best of the show strains,in sporting circles, maybe ,maybe not,If it was in racing terms its like trying to compare a 6 furlong sprinter to a 3 and a half mile chaser, like i said futile. Now soze mate, leave me alone its whiskey weekend ,but i hope you are well mate take care.:)
