I was watching a YouTube video of a guy interviewing Ed Crenshaw. He asked him if a specific bloodline produced a lot of coal dogs. I guess he could have said cold dogs but it sounded like he said coal dogs. Does anyone know what he is referring too?
    Thx!

    Thanks,
Does that mean dogs that just don’t have the temperament to be Pitt dogs?

It's a trait where they won't engage another dog, even if the other dog is attacking it. They'll take their death wagging their tail out of hold. I view it as a kind of retardation.

Thank you for the details AGK. Do you think their could be a correlation between cold dogs and the level of inbreeding in their pedigree?

Couldn't really say. I've only personally witnessed 1 truly cold dog before. It was heavy bred off cold bitches on It's dams side of the pedigree. I just chalked it up as if you breed 3 generations of cold females your bound to produce some cold dogs since acorns don't often fall to far from the tree.

Breed 3 generations of cold dogs? Why? I’d be surprised if you did not get cold dogs. Simple opinion.

Don't know you'd have to ask evolution kennels that question. Wasn't my dog was a dog Wardog purchased.

    :D

I prefer family bred dogs with no cold dogs at all. That's why I stay away from the inbred or heavy Dibo bred dogs.
With cold dogs, I believe, it's still not clear if they are curs or maybe double/triple game.
I don't like to keep cold dogs, but ... who knows ...

I don't mess them either. I definitely would never breed one or to one. Some people swear by them because of the handful in history that actually produced well. With a smaller yard it's not something I got time for.

I always find it amusing that people put a stigma on breeding cold dogs but will generally accept a breeding done with untested animals, or even pups.
Really though you could be potentially breeding to a cold dog or a rank cur.
    Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

I agree but feel those were the exceptions to the rule not a reason to keep breeding cold dogs.

I guess I just try not to worry about what the next person is doing. Best part of breeding your own dogs is not having to take the word of others about their dogs.

No don't keep breeding cold dogs just was saying in the dog game history cold dogs have been the best producers, Gr Ch n CH be bred so many times just received that POR OR ROM status. The last decade I would say you have seen more Gr Ch n Ch produce better.

I have seen a few dogs that I deemed cold. One had three or four owners and when he landed in his final home he won 4, twice going well over 2 hours.

I had a female that was as good as anything any one would ever want to stand on top of but she never scratched, not the first time.

I had a 5/8th Red Boy male that had a winning mother, a deep game father and two winning siblings. He never developed the first bit of interest.

I bred to the first dog mentioned but never bred the other two.

I can see where someone with five or six generations of experience in a family of dogs can make a better decision breeding a cold dog than someone with limited experience.

But at the end of the day, if you feed'em, you can breed'em.

That's what I was thinking. Surely with a bit of time and effort you can get a cold dog started if it really is a game dog.

    Maybe.

it can get to being word play as well. Ch Skull (4XW) showed no interested and was the laziest dog I have ever seen. He passed thru several hands and then clicked at 4 years old winning 4 in 18 months.

When I sent him down the road I said he was cold. Turned out he just did not turn on til very late.

The 5/8th male who was closely related to Skull acted the same. So I kept him til he was five hoping I had another Skull. He was actually truly cold. Never once would do the first thing, even to defend himself.

But that is how my luck runs.

I'm thr guy that pays the extra at the car lot so the next guy can brag about the good deal he got. Just saying.

Do you believe that breeding to Gr Ch an CH will do the trick and that's what produces more future Gr Ch and Ch's ?
I don't care about titles in general. CH or Gr Ch means nothing to me when it comes to breeding. My goal is to not get the next international multi gr ch and dog of the decade which I can later sell for 1 million to china. btw. was Mayday's dam cold or a cur ? :D
