Sure they are. They are in Ireland. I along with many other dogfolk chat with O Flynns grandson. They still do Badger Trials. I have some pictures of some of his dogs. The breedings were mentioned above. This site is hard to get pictures on for me..or id add them. I also did an article for a magazine a while back..not sure it got printed..never did receive my copy as promised..but I have a link to the article.."celebrating the breed"..which I wrote and share if anyone interested..pm me.
Facebook made it easy to connect with folks. ..but it also makes it easy for the wrong folks to follow you.

  12. Most knowledgeable I know about these dogs and most are gone , i know Tony L is gone , pretty sure seamus is gone ,dont know if Davy R is still around , I know Ricky B is alive as far as I know.In fact most Flynn and so called dublin red were gone by mid nineties, I think the only name I heard back than was a dog called trapp or trap , got offered a daughter blueish in color but declined , think the guy had a son of jocko , simon or something , he was a nice guy
seen a bunch of them back in the late eighties early nineties , they all vanished when the apbt came

They don't trace back to the O'Flynn dogs from the days of the trials ,, they don't look like anything but regular KC SBTs,,

I assumed oflynns current dogs are direct decendants of their old trial dogs ? Also most of the old trial dogs looked like fairly squat stafford types didn't they? Apart from the ones with bull terrier influence. Maybe not as fat and windbaggy as modern show dogs but fairly squat nonetheless. Look at photo's of 'wolf island ' stuff.

The dogs they have now ,,don't trace back ,,I don't think working SBTs ware squat , just a lot kept them heavy , as they did not need to be fit , when a lot of these dogs ware got fit for the matching , they looked well made ,,

Think he has a short history of his old trial dogs on his site...he does seem to imply there the same blood lol.

They have some of the Evergreen blood..but One other stuff as well. Cuileog as mentioned above rings true. The dogs are a bit cobby but he said something about the smaller barrel type we're better for getting in..
And more durable ..less likely to get tangled..
I've got some pictures of their new dogs somplace from when we spoke last..

They are nice dogs that really have a awesome history..
I'm not sure if their breeding practice..but with some inbreeding and selection ..you could make them old type come back possibly.
I'd take a pair any day. I'd send him some also. We spoke of it. Maybe some day.

I suppose if you want a staff it’s one of the few places you could work from.

  19. Could the trial dogs (Staffs)finish a boar brock one on one???....or was the object to just remove the critter out the ground???.....
Sorry for the wierd question...but every blue and white mutt on every estate I see.and it's proud owner says it's capable of such a feat.but we all no it's owner is more then a lier...my point is,could they pull of this feat back in the trial years???

It's quite clear today's dogs cant.

"Type" as in structure...............yes,but close breeding on generations of untested stock would produce.............nothing better than everything else peddled out there. You got time, space & money for selection ?
You be better off forgetting the past & concentrating on what is in front of you & going on from there. Basically a waste of time for myself,Tom,Dick & Harry,so best left to those "few" getting their hands dirty. Without a shadow of a doubt those boys are few & fcukin crazy for soldiering on.........
