Patterdale Excercise

Just curious, anyone work their Patterdale on a slatmill to burn their energy and work cardio/anaerobic?

 

Don't own a Patterdale but sounds like a good idea to me.

 

WHY NOT depends on the though some take to it with ease some not,,,,,,,some run it hard like a freight train some run it perfect at a normal steady pace,,,,depends on the dog.I've had a 14LB JRT run a red river curley slat mill at a steady normal pace on a 4" incline 4ever ,,,,,had a 40Lb staffy bull run it like a freight train,,,,had pitbulls run it like a grey hound.Had one of my best elizebo dogs want no part of it.

They most certainly do. There is a member here that posts in paterdale section that also has a youtube channel. I reccomend. .Look up

Mine wants nothing to do with the slatmill. lol. But we'll hit the roadwork outdoors. Just sucks he's skittish when it comes to loud vehicles passing by.

 

ive just started a 6 month old border terrier on the mill, she has took it well, my other two border youngsters are still unsure but then most dogs are at first.

 

Nice looking machine Nomad. I don’t own a mill but I suspect, like any other exercise endeavor, dog has to be familiarized positively, then trained to get the most out of it. And each dog will respond different based on genetic drive and energy level. I think a dog with any kind of prey drive (especially terriers!) can be trained to fetch/retrieve. In which case the ball, frisbee, flirt pole can make for excellent interval training, utilizing more muscle groups than trotting a mill in a straight line. I still run, walk, hike the dogs, but also incorporate a bicycle to ease up on my past-prime joints.
