At some point it really does not matter. In my case I can't imagine Molly Bee having any effect on the a breeding I may do today. My Red Boy dogs the same. Whether he was Corvino or Colby or Red Devil or Bullet, who knows, at this point I doubt it really matters.

It is hard enough to make good dogs going forward. It is just about impossible to recreate a dog from 20-30-40 years ago.

Id bet that he had most all of the components Slim mentioned .. As most dogs of that era had a combo of those lines in their recipe..regardless of the names of who bred them...the blood was there.
The stew always had the same ingredients. .it just started to get harder to figure out due to the shenanigans of the breeders.
And people get crazier and crazier i think...so why would the pedigrees not follow or reflect this..?

The interesting thing is the similarity in type..and color..that can be seen ..or heard... And how that can be used also.
    Also mentioned by Slim...
I have seen and heard this also...the erie ess to these traits is almost haunting at times...but i also say it becomes part of you...

I see glimpses of the older dogs at times in my dogs.. I seen how pre cursor genes..can cross and even pull out older similar carried genes in a cross..
It is a lot of similar type and size in some lines more than others..as im sure some can agree...but these days it is harder to see due to those above mentioned shenanigans. .

Why i like the older recipe.. its easier to gage and see...and keep .
    Less headaches and questions..

Thanks for your posts slim...gets the thinker thinking..

Would it be fair to say that pre 60s the ratio of sportmen to breeders was higher? I've observed that a really high quality dog was more likely to be described by his family name during that era, eg a Lightner dog. Probably because really high quality dogs were a rarity, compared to later years, so it was customary for his family to get the credit for producing him.

With the advent of Dibo in particular, high quality dogs started to pop up frequently, & suddenly it wasn't so hard to breed one. So now more guys are breeding & we notice a swing towards describing a dog by his immediate ancestors, eg a Miss Spike dog.

Many more people breeding dogs, probably not a massive increase in overall dog numbers, but certainly a massive increase in the number of people registering litters, and consequently in fraudulent litter registrations.

And less chance of keeping the 'secret recipe' secret.

  5. I know ed said in the interview pistol was his dad. But how does ed really know. Baker has never kept it a secret an told ppl who Maurice told him his true sire was. From tlkn with Floyd. Most always wondered how's Maurice got a pup off of Elias pistol. Cuz his owner an floyd bred him many times an the dog never sired a litter. So there's another mystery. There is a man with a book of carver's hand written pedigrees an he says a lot these ppl speculations are way off. An from what I gather Stu fowler is behind a lot of famous dogs. Especially around the early seventies when stu was a old dog.

I doubt the percentage itself is all that different. I think the difference would be the total of the numbers involved then multiply that by the advent of the internet.

In 1970 the only way to have this conversation was by word of mouth or the monthly magazine article. Word of mouth would be the single to double digits. The magazine would be into the thousands.

Today it is in the hundreds of thousands, and even millions with the click of the button.

I think back then there were older guys selling to newer guys, just not as many on either side.

All the goods and bads fall into the same groupings. Just so many more in total with instant access to the masses in a flash.

I'm Much More Inclined to Believe Boomerang was off of Ironhead than Stu Fowler. His Structure is a Lot More Like Ironhead's, Even his Head is Shaped Like IronHead's.

Ed said iron head through sable and smutt colored dogs every time he was bred so that rules him out

  10. I've talked to other older dogmen that declared he was outta Ironhead. Although I ran the blood years ago, the only ped I had he was coming outta Pistol and I never got a chance to talk directly to the breeder, so I bred according to the posted pedigree. Either way they go back to some of the same dogs

What reason would anyone question Baker. If he was told from the person who bred the dog to begin with?

Who is Art's Missy off. I have heard it said for years now that Boomerang isnt bred as papered but never hear anyone question Missy's ped. Was there a confirmed breeding of Pistol x Miss Spike?

  18. According to bakers friends an his kids. Boomerang is 100% off iron head x miss spike. They are puttin a book together an gonna address this. An chivo an other things associated with bakers life in the dogs
