    Hi
Would like to know if it advisable to do work if a dog catches kennel to continue with conditioning?
Would you medicate and wait for it to go away and start again?
What are the risks of working a dog if it has not recovered?
    Tx any advice welcom

Your dog should be in the peak of health prior to and during his keep. You should address the kennel cough and let him rest after treatment.

There is no way i would ever work a dog with an illness, you would be failing the dog and yourself.

First it will be a tough healing process while doing work.

Two, the dog has to be in great health in order to benefit/prosper from work.

Third, and more long term, the dog will not be able to go as hard and as long as he would cough free. You will then mentally condition him to think it is OK to stop working when there is an obstacle or inconvenience in front of him.

In order to get better for tomorrow you have to leave him wanting more today. If he is sick he may not want anymore today. In time he will not want it tomorrow either.

No. Kennel cough can turn into pneumonia quickly. Wait until the dog is in better heath.

Slim put it pretty well the only thing i would add is even as a human i wouldn't try and condition myself with something that directly affects my breathing, then you have all the extra strain on the dogs body trying to fight off infections ect. Just not a good idea imho and i would never try it myself, just not worth it considering most of what the dogs do is cardio based, even strength training.

    Thanks for the response, appreciated
Is there any specific tests one can do to confirm its cleared up, other than symptoms like coughing disappearing?

The dog should be on some type of anti-biotic.

Pay the forfeit and get the dog healthy. Reschedule for a later date.
Your severely stacking the odd against your dog if you continue.
