Advice/tips needed- DIY cow hide salt curing

I posted on a thread from a few years ago, nothing replied yet, so ill ask here=)

A friend of mine has a big steer they are going to butcher in a week, I'm getting the hide. I'm wanting to cure it with salt so I can use it on a spring pole and cut up chunks for a flirt pole. I read on the thread that someone used bleach/water mixture to soak it in over night and they used s type of salt on the inside of the hide.

Things I need to know:
1) what is the bleach/water ratio in the 5 gallon buckets?
2) what type of salt do I use?
3) is there any helpful tips out there I can use to make this process as successful as possible.

I might add, this is my last hope for getting my dogs interested in a spring pole. But I want to get my 3 month old interested in it now so he don't end up not caring for it like my other two do. And the hide is free.... why not?

Some of the folks that sell may know more.
I'd let it sit in the sun a day nor so and tighten up.then just hang it up in a cool place for a week or two and repeat until dry. You want it toough and naturally stretchy so it will not tear as easy.. I did this with none I bought couple years back....still hanging in there...

 

Thank you. I hope to get this good once n be done for a while. But that being said I'm going to practice on deer this hunting season and just get the hang of it. If I can do it I wouldn't mind selling slabs of it just to keep hides coming in and buying the salt.

 

I just put salt on this one and left it in the field. I flip them over at night so they won't get wet.

 

I don't salt mine, I just clean most the fat off then wash it down, let it hand over a paddock hate for 2 days, then I stretch it out on a school fence and so the air can get up underneath it aswell so it's not collecting moister on the hair side, I'll leave it out for a week then put it in an open shed and leave it till its dried
