Anyone ever worked with a Patterdale from Gary Hammonds? Just wondering how you like them? I ended up getting one off two of his good dogs. I figured why not.

How long have you Americans had Patterdales over there? I still think there's a big discrepancy in the quality of dogs between us Brits and what you have access to. We have bigger, rougher dogs. I heard the market for them over there was to be on the diminutive side, they lack the the substance of our dogs.

A small 12-14# ground hog is a serious adversary in the tube. It will many times out preform a racoon of 1 and a half to 2 times its size. Ground coons are tipical of 20lbs or bigger. Most quality Fells will finish but there is more to this then a battle dog. The ultimate goal of a terrier is earth work nun of this above ground work actually is a waist of time and selection of quality terriers. The name of the game is stay till Dug. I believe any terrier that stays has quality weather it be a bayer or a hard terrier. Me my self i like them in the middle. See people who hunt above ground miss the whole concept of true terrier work the earth is 90% of the test for true earth terriers in location and staying till Dug. Many who hunt above say that there terrier is a good locater well yeah its easy to locate above ground and follow a scent mixed in the open. Under ground tue scent is saturated all the same so they have to find the absolute freshest one. Also hunting above ground most terriers run even bigger and soon will never get to ground again through this breeding. So why even due that they where not originally bred for above ground work. Hope this answers some of you questions.

Do you ever take (dig).American Badger??..if so what's your opinion on them??....and do you ever take (dig) Coypu/Nutria???..
I read some were that Coypu are no test for a terrier,,,especially so because it's a huge rat type creature...and a normal rat if it was as big as a Coypu,,,would be a hell of a fight for any terrier.....(could you imagine?.a brown rat what weighs over 15llbs..it see would be scary man!!.lol)
we used to have Coypu over here many years ago but they were all hunted and all culled...I think the last one caught over here was caught by a foxhound pack down in Surry or Sussex..in the 1970s.
they were kept in fur farms,,but we're released into the wild the same way Mink was....
The Badgers over here are well protected..so is everything to be honest(except rats and rabbits lol.wtf?)....but the Badgers over here are terrible critters for a terrier to face in a tube....many men(years ago before Badger was protected)..say they would rather have a Bayer then a hard terrier..as they said a hard terrier will take to much punishment of the Badger.and have to be put on sick bay for weeks.......as for foxes.Fells and such were bread purely to get the fox..and kill it below ground.many of the strains of Fells were bread in sheep rearing countrys..and it was the only way to keep the fox population from getting out of control....
I'm not a terrier man what do ever..but there great little dogs .......with massive harts!!!!!!
