I feel bad for the kids at Penn State. They won the Big 10 by beating the #6 team in the country. Their resume shows a head to head win against the current #2 team in the country. They won the conference that is arguably the best in the country this year. Their reward? The door prize game in Pasadena.

I think the criteria of 'who can beat Alabama' trumped all the other criteria listed.

Proof in point. Even OSU is how do they pull #2 over two conference champions with the same record. Reason is they can't be four and see Alabama in the first game.

Committee has said since day one they put a lot of stock in Conference Champions, well we about to find out just how much.I think Penn State is out and OSU in.I don't even think it's close!

It is funny listening to the selection committee and the reporters covering the announcement.
Washington got in because they won their conference and they beat a top 10 team in doing so. Penn State played in the best conference in the country this year. They won their division. They won their conference by beating the #6 team in the country. And the stat that should carry all the weight in the world, head to head matchup, did not mean squat.

Based on that, maybe we should not even play the games. Alabama is favored over Washington, so Alabama advances. OSU is favored over Clemson so OSU advances. Alabama is favored over OSU so Alabama gets the big trophy. No neat to make reservations. No need to play the game.

At least only one team got hosed this year.

Agreed. It is still better than the BCS or the AP polls from way back when.

My only issue is the importance of head to head competition and conference championships being overlooked and replaced with subjective thinking.

Hell, I have several issues. The selection should not have been between Washington and PSU for the fourth spot. It should have been PSU and OSU for the 4th spot. With PSU winning all the key points.

And then to say we value conference titles because we moved Clemson ahead of OSU. So now one team stands on one side line and the other stands across the way as the home team? Not a little difference there? Oh, and you get to call the coin toss too.

PSU got hosed by the committee.

Baylor and TCU got hosed by their own conference by not naming Baylor champ (as they should) and tried to play both ends against the middle to get both in the playoff. Costed Baylor a shot they deserved, and the conference lost millions. The commissioner should have been fired.

Maybe my rant is the season is almost over. LOL

I think the blowout loss to Michigan hurt Penn State worse than the close loss to Pitt. They did get blasted 49 to 10 by Michigan. If that game is a 7 point loss or less Penn State would have been in ,IMO.But yea they did what they was suppose to do and that's win their own conference.Blow out loss to UM hurt them for sure.

Agreed. I am not saying Penn State is one of the 4 best teams in America. Maybe I would like to here the committee say 'we are going to pick the four best using whatever criteria we choose, and the criteria can be different from team to team, conference to conference, and we do not have to have rhyme nor reason for our selection'.

They say that and I am all quiet and just waiting/hoping for the good games.

I like Bamas defense because the front seven are faster than years before.
I think that they should go back to 10 regular season games and a CC. That would leave the extra weeks in the season for a 16 team playoff without adding alot of time to the season

The kicker is not that the front 7 are faster, those 7 are faster and the 7 backing them up are faster.

The recruiting process at Alabama is above and beyond anywhere else.

The other thing besides recruiting speed on that D is Saban has finally went out of his way to recruit capable , dual threat QBs .One thing he has never been noted for was good QBs .Just look at how many are playing in the NFL lol I can only name one .AJ McCaron. You see all the other QB s on the roster transfering. He has listened to his critics about never having top notch QBs and now he is trying to change this.

Agreed. What he has had are really good college type QB's. Game managers are the term they use at times. With the defense there and the run game as long as the QB does not turn it over he is a collegiate national champion.

I am behind the curve on the news this week but I just read Kiffin has landed the Houston job. The people at Houston must be high and I think Alabama just got better. He left programs in a wreck. He must be a heck of an interview as he lands jobs at the top of the tier.

Lol true on Kiffin , he is a good O.C. and a good QB coach but honestly I don't see much of a drop off at Bama with Steve Sarkesian on board.Steve will be the next O.C. at Bama.I give Kiffin credit , his offense went to the playoffs 3 yrs in a row with 3 different QBs and one national title .Third title remains to be seen.

My bad , not the 3rd national title but the second remains to be seen.He did have 3 SEC titles to.

I can't find good things to say about him. LOL. I say he was along for the ride. If I were the OC at Alabama the results would have been really similar, if not the same. LOL

Football is all about defense and the run game. Teams with no defense and nor run game never win titles.

Broncos with Manning slinging the ball fifty times gets mauled by a Seattle team that plays defense and runs the ball.

Last year's Bronco team used the recipe that spanked them the year before and won a title.

Brady's Super Bowl wins were always with offenses that ran the ball effectively out of the same sets they threw from, and the defenses were not dominant but played great situational football.

The Ravens. The early 90 Cowboys. The 70's Steelers. Penn State. Nebraska. Oklahoma. Clemson.

My favorite one is Steve Spurrier, the old ball coach. The fun and gun offense is all he is known for but they had a string of great defenses at Florida and a solid run game.

I don't remember Alabama going to the air to beat anybody. The best part of their passing game, even with this years QB, is with that offensive line and the RB's that parade thru there, there is always 8 or 9 in the box. Even I could dial up a few plays to get Amari Cooper and Julio Jones some catches in man coverage on the outside.

I'm thinking I do not make it to the top of the Lane Kiffin fan club. LOL

I hope for good games but I am seeing two blowouts in route to another title for the Tide.
