Going crazy when small kids are held

My dog is having some behavioral issues, he has never had issues around kids but have never been around very small kids, and if someone picks up a small kid he goes just as crazy as when he sees a cat, and this feels really disturbing.
    He is an ADBA Apbt.

It might be similiar to why they say, never pick a small dog up at the dog park as the other dogs see it as prey. Only thing you can do now until you get some serious advice is what I imagine you are already doing, keeping the dog away from small children. He might be trying to protect the child for all we know but not worth the risk.
Hope you can sort it out.

Don't have the dog around kid's....I would get rid of the dog or pit it down.when it comes to kid's I wouldn't take a chance

Does the dog do it while the child is walking by itself I had a female that would act up if it couldn't tell what I was holding like walk in with something in my arms she would freak ..you set it down she quickly could identify what it was and would relax . Some dogs are so stuck on go if it can't tell it's a human then it's a chew toy then .. if you could hold the dog and let it see you put the child on the floor he might get the idea ..remember to kids don't always look like kids when their crunched up in your arms and if none of that helps
    .. put to sleep

I am with wicked13... Show the dog that's a kid, he has to learn it's even a kid if it's lifted in the arms. But don't get the kid in any danger while showing the dog. If he don't get it, pts or keep it away from kids every second and make sure it never can approach small kids. I personally wouldn't keep that dog.

Having been a professional dog trainer, I can tell you this is not usual. vast majority of dogs take to children right away.
This dog would have to leave asap. He won't make you famous, but he will make you infamous.

HAd one similar , he wouldnt act aggressive towards kid, however, who ever picked it up, he was VERY protective of kids... YOU NEVER Spanked one around him,,, if you valued your arm... Great dog , just very protective,, he would only allow my dad or mom to hold my boy as a baby for a very short time.. Anyone else try, he would warn by pushing them away & being assertive, if they persisted, he would let them know under no uncertain terms, Dont touch his baby..lol..

Your dog seems to be viewing anything below his height level as prey as his mind cannot or does not distinguish the differences.....only a responsible owner with a vast amount of knowledge and experience can handle this type of dog.

Like I've said many times before , although everyone has the right to own this breed of dog , this breed of dog is not right for everyone.

There are some people who can keep these types of animals and I get the picture loud and clear that you are NOT one of them. Contact the breeder and see if he will swap out for another future pup. If not, assuming you don't know anybody with real experience with these types of animals, I would cull the dog.

Depending on how he's bred, I may have a chain spot open for him. Good luck.
