  1. HOW CAN I get my 4 month old pup interested in playing/locking on toys an ropes so that later down the line the spring pole wouldn't be something new to him I have to make him mad by grabbing his mouth then he'll lock on it out of anger but eventually let it go...feed back please

DONT DO THAT!!! Holding a dog's mouth closed should only be used as corrective measure IMO!! If he bites and you don't want him to, hold his mouth closed and say "no biting!" Or something like that. Holding his mouth closed makes him not want to open it! Some dogs tug, some don't. He's only 4 months, give him some time to grow. The way you're going he's will hate tugs and the like. Always gettin his mouth held shut when it should be time to play.

Drag the toy or what ever in front of the pup til he pounces on it. Back away encouraging him to get it. WHEN HE PUTS HIS MOUTH ON IT, not bite just puts his mouth on it, GO CRAZY WITH PRAISE! Act like y'all won the lotto. Do this for a while and maybe eventually he will start to "own" the toy. He should go crazy when sees HIS toy. Things like this and chase raise prey drive. Prey drive is what separates hunters from hunted.

c_note hit the nail on the head.

Some dogs do it, some don't. I have found the more driven dogs like it more though. If that dog isn't showing much drive as a pup, try building it into the dog (don't always work either). Find a favorite toy or tease and move it around in front of the dog. Any driven dog will go after it with a lot of focus and drive even at a very young age however these dogs usually have it as soon as they hit the ground. Once you see the dog wants it, don't let him have it for a few seconds, tease and make him want it more! Once he gets it, praise praise praise!

Some dogs are just alert, focused and driven, others are not and may need to be trained even though that doesn't always work either. I have a bitch here that shows 0 interest in a spring pole, she would rather work with a flirt. Your dog is young, so just give him time. I would be more worried about bonding and his mental and physical health at that age.

I didn't even setup a spring pole for my male (7 1/2 months old) until last month, this is his second time on one. He was a driven little guy at 8 weeks though, anything moving he would try and go after so i made a little flirt pole and worked with him, his two favorite bait/teases are Kong Wubbas and Cowhide.
