That's what is so appealing about great discussion. For me, an ACE really leaves a lot of questions about gameness. They were simply so good you would have to assume game. Then we would discuss the differing definitions of gameness. ACE and GAME are very subjective terms. Once that is ironed out we would then be at the crossroads of are the dogs bred to produce more game dogs or more winners. It is a constant teeter.

The obvious answer would to only breed game dogs in order to get more game dogs. But when Joe down the road has a yard full of ACES and we are left with a yard full of game plugs someone has to lean one way or the other. I doubt Joe is going to give up on winning in order 'to breed/preserve gameness'.

With that said, I define gameness simply as the will to continue. Real short, real simple. One could add all the adjectives and all the scenarios but it all ends up with the dog's willingness to continue. I consider Charlie and ACE, he took the lead and never looked back. He never showed a bad sign but he never had to or had one forced upon him. He made every scratch. He was always willing. I say he was a game dog. Some say I never saw him do anything game, based on the presumption game is a two legged chin scraping 16ft journey, and he was always on top.

Sometimes game just gives us the warm fuzzies.

Are there certain styles that would help one become an ace...ex an ear or head style, could frustrated the opponents everytime...the dominating style...

I can believe that sunbeam, can't say I have myself. Can't say I haven't, seems to me from this discussion, one mans ace could be anothers gamedog or cur. I found to feed what you believe in, until otherwise proven.....

It has to do with damaging the kidneys A well choreographed well executed slight of hand I don't want this to turn into A three page deal. There was just one crew that I know of that could pull it off and there gone. The dog starts looking like there running hot, after 20-30 min.the gamest dog cant overcome it they cant walk at A certain point! Everybody thinks they been rubbed! Blood test and urine negative! The End

Gents Ive seen it stated that O.Stevens' Virgil was an ace. What was he like pitside and who were his opponents. As its from back in the day Im sure it shouldnt be a problem discussing it

Its so many ways to mess over a dog in the wash heavy hands water in the ear I could go deeper or say more but its not about teaching you how not to get cheated its about not teaching you how to cheat
