There are many different good families of dogs.
Although they are different because of breeders with there own individual likes & dislikes, they still meet the breeds standards.
If dealing with the so called performance aspects than let performance dictate the dogs & not papers or hear say.
Everyone can find fault in anything. There are no perfect dogs nor perfect families of dogs.
They just have to be perfect to you.

To focus on a certain dog is like a baseball player who just wants that one home run hit. The Boxer who just tries to knock out with one blow, a singer with just that one hit song & so on.
To be a great boxer takes more than just one punch.
To be a great baseball player takes more than just a home run hit & so with everything in life.
It's better to keep your attention on the family as a whole than a single dog.

Good Family lines always produce great dogs but a lot of great dogs never produced good lines.

makes sense but if one dog greatly represents the family that is bringing together all the traits that the family is known for wouldn't it then makes sense to focus on this one dog as a main stud/foundation female to continue?
Just a question based on what was said earlier.

Nothing is wrong with breeding heavy on a certain dog , but a lot will get tunnel vision on trying to hard to make the next jeep or Redboy & loose site & over look other qualities with other dogs .
Meaning Tunnel vision can turn into kennel blindness.
As long as you can maintain balance & stay focused on what works instead of having to have everything of a certain dog you won't get kennel blind as much as some one who is.
    Just my thoughts on it.

I agree with everything that has been said...another thing that gets me is those that jump on what ever dog or blood and jumping on that.....i was always taught by the oldtimers to get a good family of blood and dogs and stick with it.....true eventually your going to have to step out to keep your stuff fresh...
