help I have a 4yr old pitbull and lately I have been unable to put weight on him. I've taken him to the vet and the vet did a fecal exam and said he had tapeworms which I found strange because I check his gums and worm him on whenever I see the need. Anyway its been 3 weeks and I haven't seen any improvement. He doesn't act sick and I walk him twice a day and he's active. I feed him 4health turkey and potatoe any suggestions

Most standard wormers claim to get tape worms yet they actually don't kill the HEAD of the tape worm. You need something such as praziquantel for that. Now, the best weight gaining supplement, even today, is actual animal fat. Used smartly, kidney suet is very good.

I don't know how your Winters are, but I like a little bit of "baffling" on their ribs during Winter. I use suet. A slab the approximate size of your thumb for an average size dog atop their feed. Good Luck.

we have a cat and my son took it to the vet to check for worms . they said it didn't have any and sent him home . but i knew better and we started looking and tapes were crawling out the ass . she also had hook worms to . i would go to the store and by both kinds of meds and worm the dog 2-3 days in a roll . then up your feed by 1/2 for 2 weeks and see what it looks like .

if he's on a flea preventative, that'll help alleviate that source. also, at times you might not even be noticing the worms with just your visual exam. and false negatives (as far as testing goes) is not too uncommon. a dog could have worms and still have the test come back negative. if you're walking him 2x a day, maybe up his food intake, yep, with one containing a higher fat content. if he's burning off everything he's eating, it would stand to reason he won't add weight.
    good luck

I use straight raw beef fat... Works for me and I get it free from the butcher.

That brand of 4health is actually mfg by a company called Ainsworth, not that it matters.
I use that kibble also. I use the fish, duck, and beef varieties at different times.
how much do you feed, and how often? a 4 year old dog should have a consistent weight established, or patterns should have became obvious, given this is a dog that you have raised all 4 years.
if not, i suggest experimenting with the kibble, more slightly, and possibly add in a some raw suppliments to see what changes. It is possible the dog is getting too much exercise and not enough food to accomidate for it.

    just a couple quick ideas..
