STONES, are you talking about AI from frozen sperm, or do you mean the old "chasing dead dogs" syndrome and breeding backward myth that some fall into?

Whats the difference between sticking a bitch to frozen sperm and chasing dead dogs if the sperm is frozen. Would you breed to to Hank or Deacon if you had the chance?

People breed backwards for the same reason people play the slots at casinos. That reason being, that once every four or five blue moons you may get lucky. People also fall for the percentage myth. "I got the highest percent champion such and such. Who's got the tightest this?" I fell into it myself. Some folks think if a dog's pedigree doesn't contain the same name "x" number of times it is a scatterbred mutt.

i think people who TRY to breed backwards .......don't have a cleu about the genes they working with lol...most of the time just from hearsay ..they do it ....and often they act like they find the egg of the Columbus lol
its about the breeding Always .....
    its about breeding between family's

i think the theory of loading up a pedigree with a top dog sounds good except for when you try to do it and you find inbreeding
    suppression creates sub par dogs.

to try to recreate a certain dog in a pedigree (which is what i think you are asking) is nearly impossible and definitely improbable.

The reason being, if you cloned a dog, you would get a dog with the same DNA but the character/temperament is different. So it isn't the exact same dog, right? Because we are after temperament as well as everything else physical.

Another reason why you could think it's not the best way to go is because dead dogs have their attributes "Enhanced" by story tellers and the usual myth making that goes along with talking about anything that happened in the past. So you could be trying to recreate a dog that wasn't actually half as good the stories.

Best to concentrate on what you are doing now and what you plan to do in the future. And write down everything you do so you can look back and get the facts not the distorted memory you have of what happened.

If you look at a pedigree and can see its depth..breeding backwards is a term used to describe tightening up a bloodline that is loose line bred. I have heard many breeders use the term. I have also heard many use the term in regards to breeding a son or daughter to mother or father. ... Now chasing dead dogs....complete different and those dead dogs would have to have been seen physically...in order to say so...
