Is everyone breeding for the show standard?

No offense taken just want to know who's breeding away from the modern show standard.

 

I will tomorrow it's easy, by the way I am big fan of your dogs.

 

There are lots of people out there breeding dogs that dont look like the ADBA style. Short and really long lol, all of the puppies here are very long, some shorter than others, some longer than others, maybe one that would do well in the ADBA lol

 

Feel free to change the title lol I don't want to come off as judging or questioning since a lot of people get deffensive you know?

I think that each person breeding dogs breeds to their own sort of standard. IMO breeding dogs to look a certain way is insanity, whether short and fat or dogs that look like a "true" APBT should.

 

Does anyone have photos of ADBA champions from the early beginning until now? has that standard changed at all?

 

I was told breed for bulldogs and if a pretty one pops up , what the hell take them to the show

I don't think most breed for a show look. Sometimes it just happens, especially when crossing different lines. I bred two short stocky dogs together and got some of the biggest, rangy dogs I ever owned. Some were some real lookers and others looked like hounds. If you are breeding for the right reasons structure is more than likely on down the list of reasons to make a breeding. Pretty is as pretty does. That goes for dogs and most everything else.

 

Can you share the dogs and the result? I want to see what you are talking about.

 

I breed for structure different to the standard. Standard is too weak and not durable enough. Saying that, I got all sorts and will breed the better ones but still got my goals which will eventually look different to standard and hopefully work better.

 

The ADBA standard isn't even a thought in my mind when I make a breeding. Never was, never will be. Looks are about the least important thing to me. Breed for purpose and the rest will follow IMO.
