Discussion in 'Sports & Activities' started by Karma_thepitbull, Feb 9, 2014.

  1. Have a 6 month female razor edge OFRN high energy when playing. Not to familiar with flirt pole and spring pole did a little research. Want her to have an activity to burn energy and these to a read are amazing. Curious on how the introduction should be. How to get her interested without me holding it. Just any tips will be useful . And what age to start.

assuming the drive is there .... i went to lowes got a garage door helper spring, lighter one at first, tied a rope to it, then a toy tire or a hide at the end of it. put it at a heighth when he was younger so all four stayed on the ground, when he got older got a stronger spring and adjust height so his front legs are off the ground. i could barely attatch the toy without him trying to get at it. put a toy on it they like, should be golden. i've seen him in the yard trying to grab the rope and tug on it with no toy a couple times haha. hope this helps

  4. Thanx I thing I found the toy she likes. I made a flirt pole and the toy I used for the flirt pole I put on the spring pole and she started playing with it more. I also was reading they can lose teeth in rope. Have u had that problem? And you know what hide people use 4 spring poles? If so where to get it?

ya ^ or stillwater kennel supply has some cow hide. hes only messed with that rope a few times in the past, other than that he chews bones or his kong, dont really have rope toys so wouldnt be able to tell you.

  7. Oh ok well I just ordered 10 cow hides from stillwater kennels. Hopefully she likes it. It will be here in 1-3 days. How many inches did you drill your hole in the hide?

Use bungee cords instead of steel spring (had one come loose - broke and they can inflict quite a bit of damage.
If the hide has hair on it shave or trim it off with clippers - dogs will pull hair out and swallow it and throw it up.
Make sure the dog can at least get their back feet on the ground when pulling - better if they can get all 4 on the ground and get a better work out.
Wrap duct tape where the rope attaches to the hide (over the knots) and where it attaches to the bungee cords.
Never allow them to play w/ it alone - always supervise play !

  10. How did you put the hide on the spring pole. I drilled a hole 2 inches and put a rope through and attached it to the spring pole. But she is extremely interested but she sometime have trouble getting a hold of it and tugging on it like the rope. Is her mouth to small? Do I need to fold it in half? Make a smaller piece? uploadfromtaptalk1392692556415.jpg

id fold that sucker in half, give her some material to sink her teeth into it. how is she with it, she want it bad and shake it and what not?....

  12. She is extremely interested in it. Especially on the flirt pole she goes nuts. But can't grab it most time she grabs the rope it's attached to. When she does grab the hide I pull it and it comes out her mouth cuz she can't grip it good. On the springpole she will go to in and play with it for 30 mins by herself at less I call her. But she doesn't hold it. She tries though she will chew the bottom and when she can get a good grip on the side she will pull. Also I noticed the hide has gotten hard. So I'm thinking it's harder to grip. How do I soften it up? Also when I fold it to I old it hair out hide in or hair in hide out???

I just built a spring pole for my dog Lexi but she seems more interested in figuring out how to get the rope off as opposed to tugging on it. I started with it real low putting her favorite treats under it. Then tried putting some treats on the rope to see if that would help. My question is do you think I should take the rope off and try something else like a tire maybe?
