Hi, I own an AST American bully cross. 45 lbs, female. She's about 70 percent staffy. She has no papers or anything of the like. She's two years old, spayed. And female DA since a very young age. She is very very drivey, play driven and food driven to an ungodly extent. Always on her toes ready to go.... Anywhere lol. I have conditioned her for one summer so far. And now that winter has came she is just this wild animal, regardless of how many frozen walks we take. so my question is, what kind of job can I give her to satisfy that constant urge to just go buck wild!? I do however take her to run large fields nearby. For at least an hour and a half. Those runs and training during field time seems to just tease her energy. Almost antagonizes it, feeds it. I know I could do weight pull, or fly ball, and other LP registry events, by I don't have the bread to be sinking into that. Any advice is welcomed. Constructively taken.

If your skint and feeling the cold, the obvious one would be to set up a spring pole in the back yard somewhere, let her tire herself out. Failing that buy a springer attachment and take her out biking! I used to either use the springer so the dog sprinted along side the bike or if i was wanting to build muscle i let him pull me on the bike and apply the brake to give resistance.

  5. I own a spring pole, but last year she didn't show any interest in it. Always wanted to bike with her tho. I just know my a$$ is going to hit the dirt a few times until she's used to it LOL when her motor starts, it does not want to stop.

I know what you're talking about we have 3 rescues in the house right now and they're driving me crazy especially since we have to keep em all separated. I'd put a spring pole in the garage and get you an electric treadmill off of craigslist for cheap and a new boyfriend to build some walls on the side and strap the dog in and let it walk on that every day. One of our rescues I have to take for a car ride every night or he'll bark like crazy til I do. I guess you just have to figure out what works to keep em happy

  10. Does anyone have a feeding recommendation for a 45 pound dog during winter months to keep decent muscle/fat ratio?? I currently feeding 2 1/2-3 cups a day. Split between three meals. She hasn't gained a lot of fat so far, but it's slowly accumulating. Is it a bad idea to do a weekly fasting???

It's not a bad idea to let them fatten up a little during winter, especially if the dog lives outside or spends a lot of time outside. Feeding recommendation depends on food quality and activity level as well as weight. So what brand are you feeding? Try and give her some raw bones during mealtimes this should keep her busy for a while especially if they are frozen.

Also try to play with her using the bait you will later attach to the spring pole, just to get her interested. Other than that I would agree with ELJayBee. Getting a mill would be a good idea, or building one!

She looks in good condition, nice work!

  12. Right now, working her has been slim pickins. Below freezing temps have lingered. That's why I thought maybe she could afford a half cup decrease to prepare for spring around the bend. I put about a pound and a half on her since beginning of winter. I just don't want that extra weight to cause stress on her joints when we jump back into working her. I have tried diamond high energy, and pure balance but have had to switch back to purina ONE lamb and rice everytime because she breaks out. I know it's not the best out there. But it's the only thing I know that won't cause rashes on her stomach and hind end. She's still getting over her hair loss from PB. Def do not recommend.

  13. The bait advice is awesome, I didn't even think about enticing her interest with that in the end. Here's to hoping she takes to spring pole this year. I've realized that not all dogs like it BUT it takes time to get them really into it.

  14. Flirt pole might be second option if she turns her nose to spring pole.

put her on a (light)chain(cable run) in your garden its big enough.
in the hours you like to have for your self ....

  16. I have a 60 foot cable run. It'll have to wait til spring. I'd feel bad for making her brave the cold :/ she's a huge freeze baby unless she's constantly in motion

I can relate, my dog will work the spring pole or his frisbee probably till he had a heart attack and he'd die happy. One time i set him up on the spring pole and did the yard and took about an hour and a half to two hours and he was still trying to go all out on it. He is a little over three now and i think age is what will calm them down. They will still play like crazy but now my boy is a little calmer in the house with age. Downside about having the breed as a house dog. As far as feeding, i live in alaska and have long winters, right now i havent worked him in a while, i feed him 20oz - 1.5lbs of raw a day. spread between two meals a day. And he stays shredded, prob try and feed him a couple pounds a day and he may put on weight but i dont know, but thats what i do ... im in a similar situation though so if you want to pm me we can talk more.
