What do you think is best breed for guard dogs?

Which breed(s) are good for personal protection and protecting property from intruders and also good with other pets (i.e., dogs and cats)? Preferably a breed that is relatively low-maintenance and large enough to damage or control human intruders, but stable and trainable enough to discern between intruders and non-intruders? I know it might be hard to satisfy all these preferences, but any input is welcome

Rottie is perfect if you have no experience or money to train, they from what i see tame to quarding naturally.
If you want high wired i would go.with the Belgian Mal, but there for the more experience,
And need proper training.

 

Maybe a good Ban Dog maybe Chimera Kennels they have some nice dogs

 

i got a blind mutt..when he is working I put him on a tie out in the front yard ..he wont let nobody to the front door.He is about 75 lbs.Had a friend try to get past him a while back he lost half his shorts and almost somethin else.And yes he is blind ,but u have to killl him to get by him.He just naturally does this.He is very protective.He is half GS and half Husky not my breeding .But its a 25 ft heavy duty tie out.He is very comfortable within his area and if you het within his range he will get you lol.It was just a situation that worked for him and me.

While on the subject of guard dogs, which combo is best with 2 dog setup? Male:male, female:female or male:female and would you fix them or not?

 

i like male/female.. Older female if i have a choice.

Caucasian mountain dogs supposed to be very good I hear.

 

You can't go wrong with a Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd bred for work, or a Doberman Pinscher all three are somewhat powerful, agile, and usually non-DA dogs. The real MAN-STOPPER guard dogs are dogs like Rottweilers, Kangals, Caucasian Ovtcharkas, etc. but all three of them can be very DA, especially CO's and Kangals. Dogo Argentino's and Presa Canario's are also great guard dogs but can be just as DA as some bulldogs. But if you can find a good non-DA Dogo Argentino then that is probably one of the best guard dogs you can have, they have huge stopping power, they're quick as hell, extremely smart, and have a ton of stamina. They were bred for hunting boar and cougars so they obviously have humongous strength. Just my 2 cents.

 

The Hawaiian Poi Dog was used by Native Hawaiians as a spiritual protector of children
They also ate them . The breed is more or less considered extinct .

But for real - A good Neapolitan Mastiff scares the heck out of me.

I forgot about Fila's, those dogs are excellent guard dogs and aren't as DA as some other mastiff guard dogs.

I like the Boerboels but any breed large enough to bring down a man and is bred for gaurd work will probally do the job just fine...

That poi dog just looks like a neo to me. Lol if its concidered extinct then it would be a poor choice for a guard dog for the OP.... lol

I GOT AN APBT FOR EVERY SITUATION LOL... One that guards like no other lol. besides its ben my experience even if you're bulldogs are not human agressive..folx ain't trying to chance it.
