    Thanks, J

I cant open the link, and the guy at tractor supply said they don't carry them. I found a site that sold the stapler, but not the staples. At kvvet, you can buy the stapler, but need a prescription for the staples, wtf?? I can buy one but not the other, so if anyone has a source, I would love to see it.
    thanks, j

Next time i go to mine (tomorrow is dog food run day) I will look. I know I seen them about a year ago because I just happen to be looking at their med supplies for livestock and was shocked to see the staplers were damn near the same ones we pay a fortune for in healthcare. They also sold different kinds of suture from chromic gut to the synthetics.

The ones we use in Healthcare as well as the ones I seen at TTS are just like what naus posted. Don't think i have ever even seen a re loadable one, I know they have them but just never seen them. That's a good price for them too. Worse comes to worse suture is easy to come by but staples do the job faster.

Thanks for the help, guys I will get one of those. I will definitely get the one that comes with the staple remover. I had one with three punctures that took WEEKS to heal, and I just want to have this on hand to prevent that from happening again.

To those that have used a stapler: do you staple the skin, or do you staple muscle or fat (depending on the location of the wound) with it?

skin. clean the wound then using one hand push the wound closed and staple it with your other hand. if it is so deep that there are several layers of skin, fat and muscle you may have to suture the inside (deeper part of the wound, muscle, fat) first then staple the skin closed. You dont want to put a staple where you wont be able to remove it after it heals so you'd suture the muscle layer closed then staple the outer layer of skin. Harder to explain than it is to show...

If it is that deep of a wound you may want to consider using a penn-rose drain too or the wound will abscess.

You dont want to use a staple on the face or legs. I'd go with suture for those areas. or surgical glue (super glue if you dont have access to med supplies)

I use the disposables on hog dogs. Another thing is always try to leave a drain hole at the lowest point.

I've used this too and it works pretty well especially with face wounds but will not work for the type of wounds I believe real is talking about.... If you need to use staples then that kind of wound isn't going to close with Surgical glue or new skin.

@ AGK Why no staples on the face?

I had my dog stapled with the small staples on the face. It illed correctly but the scar might have been nicer with suture.

You really shouldn't staple or suture pucture wounds. If you have pucture wounds that are not healing promogran/prisma should do the trick. Just soak it in some saline solution and insert it in the hole. It also works on topical wounds that wont heal. Pucture wounds need to heal from the inside out. If you seal it up it can hold infection and wont drain. I dont have time to explain it all in detail right now so I will put up a couple links.
